Wonder if they will adapt a novel(s), such as the Icewind Dale trilogy: The Crystal Shard, Streams of Silver, and The Halfling's Gem.

Does anyone still give a crap about Greyhawk?

I mean, other than me?

Wonder how well "Gord the Rogue" would pan out as a Greyhawk movie or series.

...But would there be a rights issue?

EDIT: Back in the 80s when Dragon magazine had these vague rumors of a possible D&D movie floating around, I immediately assumed it would be about Gord!

They could take this direction for a D&D movie.

I don't think it would have enough moneymaking pull to actually be done but I thought it'd be funny to have a straight fantasy movie but the characters all behave and talk like how most people play at a beer and cheetos game night.

This will probably be dependent on who owns the copyright on the "Gord the Rogue" books. (ie. Did Gary Gygax sign away the rights on the first two "Gord the Rogue" books? Was it a "work for hire" agreement where he didn't own the rights to it?)

Would the rights that Warner Bros owns--for the game itself--also include rights to any of the novels?

Good question.

According to this article

http://www.deadline.com/2013/05/righ...hasbro-tangle/

Solomon actually directed the 2000 feature based on the billion-dollar fantasy game. Hasbro spokesman Wayne Charness said that “Hasbro owns the intellectual property rights to Dungeons & Dragons, period, because of Hasbro’s acquisition of Wizards Of The Coast in 1998.” Insiders on the other project maintain this has come up before, and that in a binding arbitration decision, Solomon prevailed and was proven to hold the underlying rights necessary to make the Warner Bros movie possible.
The question is what exactly are the rights which Courtney Soloman owns outright, which was decided in a previous binding arbitration. (ie. What exact agreement did Solomon sign with TSR/Wizards of the Coast back in the day).

Here's an old interview with Courtney Solomon. It discusses generally on what he did to get the rights to do the first D&D movie. (No specifics on what exactly was signed with TSR/Wizards of the Coast).

^^ I wonder what he would've offered to get the film rights? Seems really short-sighted to have let those go.

Yes, Warners. Let's reboot one of the worst movies of all time instead of giving Wonder Woman her own movie. Genius!

I would love to see this start with the cast getting together to play the game, and then we jump into the game and the rest of it is us seeing what they are playing as a fantasy movie.

There's already a perfect D&D movie out there (that, for reasons I can't fathom, refuses to come out despite having been done for quite some time now). That's the kind of thing a good D&D movie would need to do; D&D is all about playing the game, not reveling in the "awesome" (and I'm using that word quite wrongly) game worlds at their disposal.

Even the 80's D&D cartoon figured that out.

Unfortunately, they're more likely to try and go with a "straight" fantasy film. Again. Which will likely fail. Again. But, c'est la vie.

Bwahaha! LARPers are attractive, charming and all around fantastic human beings.
Excellent point.
