66. Step Up Revolution (✩✩✩) - Download - A one star movie that became a three star movie part way through. It's not a great movie overall, but it's fun, I learned something about flash mobs and Kathryn McCormick is pretty easy on the eyes.

67. Trust (✩✩✩) - Download - A movie about a guy seducing teens on the internet. Clive Owen is in it and he cries.

68. The Oranges (✩✩✩½) - Download - A man has an affair with his best friend's daughter. What's fun about this movie is that the relationship is exposed early on. Hilarity and drama ensue after that. Stars Hugh Laurie, Leighton Meester, Catherine Keener and Oliver Platt. The title is a reference to the movie taking place in West Orange, New Jersey. My cousin lives there. This is actually a fun little movie and I'm glad I found it.

69. Iron Man 3 (✩✩✩✩✩) - Theatre - I didn't expect to be giving this 5 stars but I am. It's the first movie this year that's getting a perfect score from me. My review is here.

9) Iron Man 3 (2013) - B

Went to see Iron Man 3 last night, a movie that snuck up on me with it's release date by the way, and it was your classic Iron Man movie. Downey Jr. was great as always, and I really liked that they did address the events after the Avengers. The Action was terrific and I really loved the scenes with all the Iron Man suits on the pier. The only reason I gave this movie a B and not an A though is because I didn't really understand what the villain's motivation was. Was it revenge, was it political conquest, was it both? Other than that I really enjoyed this film and it was a nice way to kick off the Summer Movie Season.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy - HBO on Demand
Pain & Gain - free admission
Iron Man Three 2D/3D - free admission/free admission
On the Town - free admission

The Drafthouse's quote along for this month is A:TLoRB, which I hadn't seen, and when I found it on HBO on Demand, I thought I'd go ahead & watch it. It was pretty dumb, and I wouldn't want to see it at a quote along.

Went into work early the other day to see P&G, which was awesomely stupid, but so much fun. It may become one of my favorite Michael Bay movies ever.

Went to the Ritz to see IM3 in 2D. That was crazy awesome. I'm gonna go see it in 3D before work tomorrow.

Followed up IM3 with OtT, a Gene Kelly/Frank Sinatra musical from 1949. It was a rather cute story about three sailors who are on leave in New York City for 24 hours. And its the second Gene Kelly musical I've seen in the theater this year.

The third movie at the Ritz today was The Last Starfighter, which I have watched a bunch of times sine I was a kid, but tonight was the first time I've seen it on a theater screen. Added bonuses - it was a sold out show & the presentation was 35mm.

- edit, to add -

Came into work early and saw Iron Man Three again, this time in 3D.

It's still awesome.

And, added bonus, there was the 3D teaser trailer for the Thor sequel was attached.

38. Superman vs The Elite: B+
39. Justice League: Doom: A
40. Green Lantern First Flight: A
41. Oblivion: B+
42. Iron Man 3: B-

Green Lantern First Flight: I like how it was an anthology spotlight of shorts but used a main plot device to weave Corps members "first flight" tales into the film. Would've been nice to have one of the shorts been Sinestro and/or Hal but that's about my only minor quibble.

Oblivion: A very well done film. Tom Cruise and Co. put out a solid film. The Cinematography was the main reason I'd recommend you see this on the big screen. Other than that you could enjoy it on DVD just fine. This borrows from a number of sci-fi themes we could point to in any number of places. If you participate in this thread I'd wager you'll start figuring it out by the midway point. That said, they weave their pieces together well and within the structure of their story it's a well done film. Where spectacle isn't the only selling point(eg Avatar) but the story is a retelling/update done equally well.

Iron Man 3: I've seen it twice now despite giving it a B-, which imo isn't a bad grade. I'd rank the IM films in the order they came out. The discussion thread is the place for things but I was just a bit let down by what they did with Mandarin. No one was calling/expecting for the caricature and offensive look from his origins, he's evolved like any character. I expected the outside the box thinking on Mandarin to be dynamic for the big screen, not a watering down as to be Mandarin in name only. So it gets most of it's knock in grade from that for me.

Re: Movies Seen In 2013

72. Vanishing on 7th Street (✩✩✩½) - DVD - One day, everyone on Earth disappears into thin air, leaving only their clothes on the ground. The few who didn't disappear realize that holding a light source offers protection from the shadow-like creatures that are taking people. And in an even more bizarre twist, the sun is coming up later and later, and batteries aren't holding their charge properly or for very long. It's a scary movie and a novel concept that keeps you wondering what's going on all the way through.

73. Uncertainty (✩✩✩½) - Download - A guy and a girl are on a bridge between Manhattan and Brooklyn and have to decide whether or not they "want to do this", whatever that is. They decide to go through with it and so both run across in opposite directions. Once across the bridge in Brooklyn, the guy gets into a car with his girlfriend, the same girl he just left behind on the bridge. And the girl, once in Manhattan gets into a cab and meets up with her boyfriend, the guy she just left behind on the bridge. What plays out from here is a movie with the same couple playing out two different scenarios. Stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Lynn Collins. It's a truly bizarre movie. The drama isn't always engaging, but you do wonder what's going on and that'll keep you interested.

74. 10 Years (✩✩) - Download - A 10-year high school reunion basically. Has an impressive cast that includes Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Rosario Dawson, Kate Mara, Ron Livingston, Lynn Collins and Justin Long. It's a half-star movie that becomes a one-star movie, then a two-star movie. It's long and talky and never reeally grabs you but gets more engaging towards the end.

Theatre: 9
Blu-ray: 6
DVD: 17
Live TV: 13

I really liked this movie. I'm a sap for oddball romantic dramedies, and this one did the trick. I couldn't predict the ending, but it fit.

I tried watchin' PE a couple of times a few years ago, but kept fallin' asleep. I finally got through it on DVD the other day. Not too bad a movie, definately not the best from Michael Mann, Johnny Depp or Christian Bale, but still glad I finally stayed awake to watch it.

Watched NY,ILY this mornin'...an anthology film with ten segments from multiple directors & writers and a large cast. Took me over three hours to watch an hour & a half movie, 'cause it was so dull, I kept gettin' distracted.

Went out to the Village for TWBH, a documentary about the way modernization & western culture are havin' an effect on teenage girls in India. Gotta say, I kinda side with the progressive family shown in the film, since the traditional Hindu family was abusive & the girl attended a militant trainin' camp.

Followed that up with a trip to the Ritz for Weird Wednesday. This week's show was about a southern hillbilly fightin' demonic evil with silver guitar strings. What the fucking fuck did I watch...

Will try to see The Great Gatsby before shift Friday...and I got word from AICN about a special event screenin' for Star Trek Into Darkness on Saturday!!!
