Would Spock make a good cop in real life?

If Spock were real, would he make a good police officer?

Just think about it...

1. His logic would be an incredible asset in detective work.
2. A Vulcan nerve pinch could make "less-lethal" weapons unnecessary. A phaser set to "stun" could eliminate the need for deadly force and protect him from brutality lawsuits.
3. A Vulcan mind meld could help him determine a criminal's motive. It can be argued that this would violate Constitutional rights, but that's for another topic.
4. Vulcans can go for relatively long periods without sleep. This could help him solve more cases in a shorter time.

So would Spock be welcomed in a real police department?

I could see him in an investigator/csi type role. In a role where he had to interact with the general public... he'd probably be less effective.

He'd fail as a street cop. He sees everything in logical, unemotional terms, and would not be proficient at handling drunks, solving domestic disputes, minor traffic offenses that could be resolved with a warning, or dozens of other things cops have to do. He's not always good at thinking on his feet, as he was unable to comprehend the behavior of the natives in The Galileo 7, and tried to analyze the situation.

Spock would make a good Lieutenant or Captain, but not a street cop, for reasons given above.

The only police position I could see him in at all would be a detective, but even that... Detectives need street smarts and intuition in addition to logic, and Spock has neither. So, no, he wouldn't make a good cop.

I can see them in the car arguing over where to go for lunch.

"Let's go to Taco Shack."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Okay, we'll go Chinese."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes. And I'll buy."
"...Yes."

I think even as a detective, he'd have a hard time with motives of passion and irrationality.

You could argue that Tuvok was simply "Spock as a cop." Granted, not everyone on this board will know who Tuvok was.

In the Vulcan justice system, the people are represented by two separate, yet equally logical groups. Sgt. Spock, who investigates crime, and the Vulcan High Command, who prosecutes the offenders. These are their stories.

*doink-doink!*

As since Vulcans usually live to be over 200 years old. No police department would hire him. Nobody could afford the cost of his retirement. He could work for the FBI. They don't care about such things as budgets.

Ummm . . . what's next? Would Spock make a good attorney? A good chef? A good tax accountant? A good Chinese cotton-picking machine operator?

Hilarious. I read the first sentence - then I went back and re-read the whole thing using 'the voice'.
