^Well, the good thing is that Bay had nothing to do with this film.
When I heard he was involved with the TMNT reboot, my eyes immediately started to roll.

I do have more faith in del Toro to direct an inspired film, but I'll wait for reviews before I pass judgement. I am also interested in seeing Charlie Day play (what appears to be, for a monster movie) a straight-man character.

Yeah, I' curious to see Day too. I'm a big It's Always Sunny In Phedelphia fan, so it's going to be strange seeing him play such a different character.

Any trailer that puts a huge, big and dumb grin on my face is bound to make me see the movie

Damn.. it's a Michael Bay movie but with a director/writer/producer who actually knows how to make such a movie have actual story and engaging moments.

I can't wait to see this del Toro blockbuster (and i agree.. the coolest moment is this Jaeger using a friggin' ship to bash a Kaiju monster ).

Even though this could be considered an attempt to make a live-action Japanese big-robot movie, it can't help but look, visually, like a derivative mashup of Transformers and Iron Man. The intercutting between the exterior and interior shots is similar to cutting of Tony Stark's head inside the helmet. So it just looks like a usual Hollywood pitch session: "Get This! It's Transformers meets Iron Man!!! We'll even put a big glowy-thing on the robots' chests!"

Yeah, the concept is cool, but so far the trailers just aren't doing it for me. The effects aren't anything we haven't seen before, and the tone reminds me a bit too much of a Battleship or Transformers.

Are any of these any good, even for entertainment value?

About 10 years ago, I got the movie Python as a gag gift for my birthday, and my friends and I watched it that night. It was obviously a horrible rip-off of Anaconda, but it was entertaining in that MST3K kind of way. Best part was that even though it was low-budget, it featured Casper Van Dien, Robert Englund, and even Wil Wheaton. Jenny McCarthy had a minor role, too. I still have that DVD today.
