Okay, you've been warned - a lengthy and somewhat disjointed synopsis of the movie from someone at IMDB.

Good egads or bad egads? There's some of both in there for me.

Yeah, reading a spoilery synopsis doesn't really capture how the movie feels as it unfolds. But it does satisfy my need for info.

So are we 100% sure these spoilers are correct? It's very fanwanky and just want to make sure we know this is real and not someone pretending they went to it and made it all up so it tied back to the commercials?

Yeah, it's a little suspicious - there is hardly a scene in that recap that isn't in the trailers.

Re: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

From the IGN review:

That Into Darkness still has a tendency to warp its own logic is also a problem. While plot-holes can be forgiven when Abrams is hurtling his audience through space at breakneck speed, the final act descends into the sort of fan-service that throws the arbitrary nature of certain narrative decisions into much harsher relief. It's ironic that Abrams' brave attempts to appease die-hard Trekkies may prove the most problematic with his movie's audience, and once again, the finale feels undercooked and over-sweetened.

Those hoping for a more cerebral experience this time around, then, may leave disappointed. The right themes are all here - notes of friendship, family and teamwork abound - but it's all big, broad and digestible with little nuance to speak of.
Just what I expected - more of the same as ST09.

I'm all for high octane. I'm all for the new cast.

I hate sacrificing story for fan wank, which is where the first one went so terribly wrong. Such a shame.

That's because JJ Abrams asked us not to spoil the magic! Don't you want to see it the way we did? Restrain yourself just a few more days/weeks!

My rating is one of the A+ ones. There some amazing edge-of-seat moments! A great night at the cinema.

I don't agree that there's too much "fan wank". There was a little, but certainly not sacrificing the story!

The IMDB stuff matches up perfectly with what another member of his board was telling folks this morning via PM. It's legit as far as I'm concerned.

There's a lot of stuff that isn't in the trailers, and it manages to stitch together the scenes in a way that makes sense out of all the brief glimpses of different parts of the story we've seen so far. It sounds genuine to me.

Well, in any case... I'm actually kind of pleasantly surprised by the spoilers. Anyone who's read my responses on Trekmovie.com's column threads knows what I had an issue with. Apparently this is still an issues- but it sounds like the acting is tour-de-force enough that it's going to be the last thing I think about when I see the film.

Yep, it's legit.

As for "spoiling the magic," a number of the folks who've seen it already have. And to them I say "thank you!"

if the spoilers are to be believed, STID will definitely connect with Trek lore so I guess the fans who've complained that it is too "action movie" and will not "feel" like Trek should have nothing to worry about.

The fans who enjoy complaining will still complain. The fans who say, "JJ, take me on an adventure!" will have fun!
