I have little information about the cover design process. I just know what they tell me.

It's not bad, but it would have been but it would have been nice to get something more than just a portrait. Honestly, I think the cover for Beneath The Raptor's Wing would have been pretty good for this.

I guess I'll echo everyone else with my disappointment for the cover... it's kind of bland and uninspiring. With a title like "Rise of the Federation", they could have done so much more.

Just to be clear, though: still very much looking forward to the book itself!

Except that Archer's in an Earth Starfleet uniform there, and T'Pau and Gral are not in RotF:ACoF.

Granted, Archer's in an Earth Starfleet dress uniform on the ACoF cover, rather than the Federation Starfleet uniform he wears in the novel, but it's the uniform he wore at the UFP founding in TATV, so at least it's from the same decade.

Yeah, I really expected the "RISE OF THE FEDERATION" part of the title to be bigger and bolder. And a Federation logo (even if they couldn't get the 21st Century version). Something that might grab the more casual Trek fan to read about the birth of the Federation, even if they're not a big Enterprise fan. This cover really doesn't capture any of that.

Ah well. As everyone has said, it's the story that counts, and I for one am still very excited about it and eagerly looking forward to it!

The cover art with Archer is Okay I thought some other Enterprise characters might appear on the cover. I expected to see the Federation banner on the cover. The story is what I'm interested in reading. The story is what I've been wanting find out what happens next to the Enterprise characters since Romulan war has ended.

Remember folks, don't judge a book by its cover.

Kind of a bland cover, but not unexpected given recent trends. I figured they'd probably put a shot of Bakula up there, though I was kind of hoping that they'd have taken the time to Photoshop a new Starfleet uniform onto him instead. I'm curious to see the design Christopher came up with.

Ah, never mind then. As the author you would know better than I would.
I just thought something that represented the whole Federation, rather than just Earth could be more appropriate.

Re: Coming July 2013: STAR TREK ENTERPRISE — RISE OF THE FEDERATION

The cover blurb for A Choice of Futures is finally up on the S&S page:

A new nation has arisen from the ashes of the Romulan War: the United Federation of Planets, an unprecedented union of diverse species cooperating for the good of all. Admiral Jonathan Archer—the former captain of the Earth starship Enterprise, whose efforts made this union possible—envisions a vibrant Federation promoting galactic peace and a multispecies Starfleet dedicated to exploring strange new worlds. Archer’s former crewmates, including Captain T’Pol of the U.S.S. Endeavour and Captain Malcolm Reed of the U.S.S. Pioneer, work with him to secure that bright future. Yet others within the Federation see its purpose as chiefly military, a united defense against a dangerous galaxy, while some of its neighbors view that military might with suspicion and fear. And getting the member nations, their space fleets, and even their technologies to work together as a unified whole is an ongoing challenge.

When a new threat emerges from a force so alien and hostile that negotiation seems impossible, a group of unaligned worlds asks Starfleet to come to its defense, and the Federation’s leaders seize the opportunity to build their reputation as an interstellar power. But Archer fears the conflict is building toward an unnecessary war, potentially taking the young nation down a path it was never meant to follow. Archer and his allies strive to find a better solution...but old foes are working secretly to sabotage their efforts and ensure that the great experiment called the Federation comes to a quick and bloody end.

Ooh, I love that blurb. I'm even more excited for this now than I was before. I guess that's what a good blurb is meant to do!

Great Synopsis this is the type of story I've wanted to see for the Enterprise crew.I'm glad T'Pol is still in Starfleet and that she and Malcolm are Captains of their own ships.Sounds like a terrific story.I can't wait to finally get to read this book and find out what happened to the rest of the Enterprise crew .Space Exploration being explored in this novel is nice to see again. Now that Archer is an Admiral it will be nice to see how he handles not being command of a ship anymore and dealing with diplomats and the founding of the federation and this alien threat.
