hopefully it'll be like when the numa numa guy did another song and it was just really sad and everybody decided the best course of action was to ignore him
Any reason in particular why you wish him to fail?

The lyrics for Numa Numa were really sweet.

And I was always so happy for that guy, his success was hilarious and awesome. Does this enthusiastic dumbass thing and makes a gazillion people enjoy themselves.

I imagine it'll be a minor hit off the back of Gangnam Style's popularity, and then he'll probably resume being mainly popular in South Korea.

I think because of his personality and flare, long-term he'll probably forge a successful international career in entertainment. But not as a K-Pop star, because the West just isn't interested in consuming that entertainment as anything but a novelty.

I can live with this, I'm just really waiting for proper K-Pop to break through internationally, dammit.
I'm doing my best posting my Kpop ass off. People, they will listen eventually. The real mystery to me is how people can love 80's pop (which is great) and yet turn their nose up at 21st century pop. Luddites

I agree with you completely! I love 80s pop too, but the 21st century has so much more to offer.

That sort of thing you've posted there is why I do love K-Pop on occasion; it's not my favourite musical genre but it's wonderfully sweet (most of it), unique and underrated.

Also, can never resist posting this when talking about K-Pop:

Sometimes if I've listened to it recently it's hard to even resist randomly shouting out 'NEGACHE CHALAGA' (so satisfying)

I don't understand the appeal of K-Pop. It sounds exactly like dance-based Europop to me. There doesn't seem to be anything distinctive about it. I'm probably wrong about that of course, but I haven't heard many things that challenged that point of view.

Funny... Gangnam style was such a big hit; had a lot of different qualities for mass appeal. However, it certainly didn't seem to have much staying power. I know for myself, I began to find it rather annoying. It's kind of like seeing a pretty good stand up comic routine, but after a few viewings you've done several times in a row... it's been there, done that. Move on.

haha I was listening to that last night after posting in this thread!

Two current KPop favorites, quite different:

I've often had it on repeat for an hour..

And this is a completely different change of pace, and lovely lyrics too.

Sunny Hill (the Grasshopper song I posted, in case that youtube doesn't show up when quoted) has some really interesting videos, kind of the prog rock of kpop IMO.

Gangnam Style was likely a one-off phenomenon. I doubt he will catch lightning in a bottle twice.

His bottle was full long before Gangnam, white people just didn't know jack about it.

Actually I have zero interest in Korean music and I don't make any effort to find out any information about it and the first time I heard of Psy was when he recorded a song for the 2006 World Cup.

Re: PSY Gentleman. Will it be an international hit?

I secretly hoped it might finally make BEGs 'Abracadabra' a bona fide international hit (original source for the 'hip dance', and one of the group - Ga-In - is the girl in Psy video). But yeah, it won't be as big as dumb Gangnam.

I don't like Gentlemen or Gangnam Style, but I do like this video from Psy, it's catchy, and done in good taste:

This is the only video from him I like:
