Loved the little bit about the Doctor tinkering with the TARDIS, and its relocation system moving it hehe.
The HADS first turned up back in 1969, in The Krotons. You can see why he usually keeps it turned off...
He only turns it on when the presence of the TARDIS is inconvenient to the plot.

I've missed most of the second doctor's stuff sadly, a lot of it was lost over time, so its hard to find that era.

Very cool info

I am hoping he messes with the chameleon circuit again

That one does exist. First Troughton story I ever saw, back in 81.
There's a fan theory that the HADS are the wired-in version of the box the Doctor builds back in Web of Fear, to over-ride the Great Intelligence's hi-jacking of the TARDIS... Interesting that he's just turned it on again, if that was the case... :-)

Meh, it was rather disappointing. Perfunctory really. The best thing about it was Clara/Jenna Louise Coleman, but she hasn't put a foot wrong yet.

It's on BBCA again, and that reminds me, what on earth was that guy thinking torching the ice block? I'm bored, let's take a look at this rare specimen and ruin it.

Yeah, he was a bonehead. The scene did initially make me think of 'The Thing', I was waiting for him to through the old electric blanket on the block there for a second.

Great episode. Even the underwhelming design of the Ice Warrior armor was dismissible and leaves them open to do a proper redesign for future appearances.

Probably my favorite 'monster' episode in years.

So the GI did actually hijack the TARDIS?

I ask because we still don't know who/what hijacked it in The Big Bang, though I wonder why the GI would want to end the universe, if that was really the plan.

Fantastic episode. I think I preferred last weeks (I know I'm one of like three), but this episode was great. It was great seeing an Ice Warrior, though to be honest this was my first time seeing one onscreen.

I did think it was a tad convenient that the TARDIS disappeared right when it was needed the most. Not for the Doctor of course, but for the plot, but that is a minor niggle in what was an otherwise excellent episode.

I'm not interested in next weeks episode. Looks to be a suitably creepy episode, Doctor Who does those pretty well, so hopefully "Hide" is no exception.

Re: Poll: 7x08 Cold War review and discussion

So why exactly was Hunger Like a Wolf this week's Deu Ex Machina resolution? Other than being the dude's faorite song, I didn't understand why that disabled the bomb.

Other than that, I really liked this episode. The score was quiet enough, and the claustrophopic feeling really made the episode great. It reminded me of those Sub movies I've seen like U-571 and Crimson Tide.

This episode also reminded me of Dalek too in that it reintroduced a classic Doctor Who race but also "introduced" the new viewers to a "new" race. It was nice to feel more involved than some of the old "new" races that have been introduced by the Moffat era. It seems like the new cool is to Bash the RTD era, yet if there was one thing I appreciated (And I appreciated a lot of things from that era), it was RTD understanding that to revitalize a series, new viewers are going to be interested and those viewers have probably not seen the classic series. It was nice to be reminded of that tonight. I will say of the races I've seen in new who, the Ice Warrior might be one of the more interesting races. I hope we see one again, at least before the Dalek's return. Now, if only they would better explain this so called Great Intelligence, I might be up to date on this new season.

Anyway, good episode and best of the three in the new batch. Still didn't like the Hunger like the Wolf ending though, unless someone can help me make sense of it.

Not much to make sense of. The Ice Warrior showed them mercy, it was just a coincidence it happened right after she sang the line from the song.

Well, it was very coincidental

The song didn't do it, rather Clara's singing it gave Skaldak a bit of reverie for his lost daughter and the songs they shared when they last saw each other. I'd say that was foreshadowed enough when Clara went into the torpedo room to have that talk, and reminded of in the Con scene at the end before Skaldak is transported out. It was him and the Martians who shut down the launch in the end.

"I must know...do Ultravox split up!"

I really enjoyed that, in fact I freely admit I probably enjoyed it more than I had any right to. It doesn't do anything especially original (aside from not show us too much of the Ice Warrior out of his suit which was great) but it was just so well done. Exceptionally old school and a proper base under siege episode. I thought the guest cast were great, I thought Smith was superb, and Jenna was brilliant (she looks very nice bedraggled) and the Ice Warrior was just wonderful! We definitely need to see them again!

I've had issue with a lot of his episodes but kudos to Gattis for bringing back the Ice Warriors so well, and treading as fine line between making them dangerous and noble, the 'they can be good guys they can be bad guys' slot is one Who desperately needs on occasion (The Judoon are the only other race I can see fitting into this category)

Best Gatiss script ever? Could be...

What a weird episode. Feels a bit over the place, something's up with the editing or I don't know. It's really off. I was really bored with this.
