Re: Favourite Doctor?

Pertwee was my fav for, like, 30 years. But Tennant is just a wee bit better methinks. I would have LOVED for the two of them to be in a UNIT ep together. How hard is it to get a book published these days?

Re: Favourite Doctor?

I voted Tom Baker [you never forget your first Doctor] but I have been greatly impressed with all three of the nuWho docs and would have a hard time picking between them. I've also seen only a couple of Colin Baker and no McCoy, and haven't watched McGann since the movie was first broadcast. I'll be remedying all of that soon. I also only saw Hartnell and Troughton in broadcasts from the late 80s over here... and i like Pertwee a lot as well.

As has been noted, this is NOT easy. All of them have things i like.

Re: Favourite Doctor?

Patrick Troughton has always been my favorite Doctor, until Matt Smith changed my mind. I love all of them, though. Well, most of them.

Re: Favourite Doctor?

Tough picking one, but I chose Baker. But it's so very, very close that trying to list them in order is very difficult.

Chris Eccleston, but I've liked Eccleston, Tennant, and Smith to varying degrees.

Jon Pertwee. There is no other.

(Smith has moved into equal second spot with Troughton, however.)

Pertwee... was certainly in a class of his own. That's all I'm going to say.

Re: Favourite Doctor?

For years I'd have said Baker or Pertwee, depending on the time of day, but having seen a few of the old serials with Hartnel, he has become my favorite. His character often has all the many facets the many actors have chosen to portray, but he blends the darkness, whimsy, Machiavellian, comical, and alien best of all in his portrayal. Other actors and productions often choose a slice of the cake, he was the whole package.

Another Pertwee vote. Class act.

Yes, I think some people don't realize how good he was, probably because of the line fluffs. He had gravitas and good comical timing, as you said, the whole package.

Eccelston is my fave, hands down.

After that it's a three way tie between Tom Baker, Hartnell and Troughton.

Meh, I don't know why Smith's so popular. Although I like him as a doctor, a lot of his episodes have been terrible in my opinion.
The exact same can be said of Tennant and Eccelston's runs as well.

Green Lantern wrote: View Post
How come Smith's so popular all of a sudden. I remember clearly when David Tennant was being hailed as the best Doctor since Tom Baker.
There was a lot of push back on Tennant when he took over from Eccelston because to a new generation of fans, Eccelston was the first Doctor. Eventually Tennant grew on people and got popular. Which is what's happened with Smith. Who ever is the current Doctor tends to win most of the popularity polls. The same will happen with then next guy.

It's a thing that DWM has commented on repeatedly over the last several years. Whoever is the current Doctor always ranks highly in polls. Usually either in the top slot, or in the second slot behind Tom Baker.
Yeah, I find that annoying that it's always the latest thing that's the most popular.

Also, I'm surprised how popular Pertwee is. I've never been that fond of him.

As in all things, to each their own. I will never understand why T Baker and Tennant are so popular, but I don't care in the slightest about it either. As it should be.

Sure. Anyway I quite like the third Doctor and some of his stories. And Jon Pertwee the man seemed like a nice chap. It's Pertwee the actor I'm not fond of.
