I love the way this article about the trailer is almost entirely focused on the brief flash (pun intended) of Alice Eve.

Wow, that may be the most accurate Daily Fail article I've ever read. Back when the first teaser hit, they were using Youtube comments as proof that the film was a Wrath of Khan remake.

Irritating Alice Eve aside, this is actually a pretty great trailer. Lightyears ahead of all the previous trailers in fact, which made the film look like the blandest shit ever (Pike's speech was snore worthy and Alice Eve's scream was unbelievably bad!). I'm not hugely keen on Star Trek being a big loud summer blockbuster but it looks like it'll be a good one like The Avengers instead of the more Transformers-esque film I was dreading.

Looks like there's an actual plot this time round which is nice and Harrison is already several classes above Nero.

Don't tell anyone that alice eve's screaming was bad. You feelings might get hurt.

I was one of the first people that noticed it in the first trailer and I got attacked on this site unfairly by many of the trek fans who (in my opinion) couldn't handle the truth.

As of right now the top rated comment on that trailer's YouTube is somebody saying everything in it was great apart from that blonde woman's dumb fake screaming so I'd say we're far from alone.

Uhura is actually better in Abrams Trek than in the original series but Carol Marcus looks to undo any of the good work done in terms of gender representation.

My guess is that Carol Marcus (Eve) will be an important character to discover the weakness of Harrison.
In the scene where McCoy is examining Harrison, Carol is nearby, watching him.
Perhaps she demonstrates strong personality and a lot of intelligence and Kirk will fall for her.

Maybe she's part of the group that augmented Harrison. Or awoke Khan from hibernation for Starfleet service and screwed him over.

Makes no difference which character Cumberbatch is playing really. He's still the vangeful baddie in the dark trenchcoat who has blown stuff up, and must be stopped before he can blow more stuff up.

Anybody remember when this franchise was about exploring?

Or maybe Carol Marcus is this universes Marla McGivers. Torn between loyalty to Kirk and Starfleet vs. being drawn in by the enigmatic Harrison (Khan)?

I always found this to be a funny statement especially by those who count DS9 as their favorite series.

Re: New trekID international trailer wed

Deep Space 9 was a spin-off and not about explorers, which the TOS crew are supposed to be. It dealt with complex political and philisophical themes in a mature way, making it more appealing to me than the Jerry Bruckheimer/Michael Bay military shoot 'em up style you prefer. Its central antaganists were also a newly discovered group of races from the Gamma Quadrant in a first contact scenario gone wrong. It was still about meeting new life and a new civilisation. As opposed to having to deal with a vengeful Romulan who blows stuff up for absolutely no discernable reason. DS9 was all about the alien. The clue is in the title. "Deep Space". It is much more like Trek than an Earth centric action film.

Still, STID does at least look like a fun, dumb Star Wars movie from the trailer which should be a good enough rollercoaster ride. I just don't think it looks anything like Star Trek. Every line in the trailer could be from any other action movie.

I think alice eve might be a double agent. She looks more of the femme fatal type of girl.........like she belongs in a James Bond Film.

I seem to recall DS9 featuing a two-part story about an attempted coup on Earth. And all the action you'd expect from a mid-90's TV show.

1) Deep Space Nine was about humans with funny plastic appendages glued to their face. Every motivation of every "alien" was human in nature.

2) We honestly don't know just how deep or "Trek-like" a film Star Trek Into Darkness is going to be since most of us have seen about twelve minutes total. Unlike some, I prefer to wait until I've seen the actual product before I pass judgement on it.

3) Don't try to gauge what someone likes or dislikes.

Since I count Star Trek: The Motion Picture as my favorite Trek outing and 2010: The Year We Make Contact as my favorite film, I'd say your powers of observation are seriously lacking. And just because I count those two as favorites, doesn't mean I don't see the value in Star Trek being an inclusive franchise that is capable of telling many different types of stories (TOS did it in spades), including big-budget summer blockbusters.

YOU LIE!!!

It's funny because many fans consider Homefront/Paradise Lost some of Deep Space Nine's best episodes. Me included.

It was an ideas and character driven story, not an action story. Even the war in DS9 was almost always used to drive forward the ideas and characters rather than give an excuse for more action.
