Vera Farmiga: Babe of the Week #13 (March 2013)

Vera Farmiga
("Bates Motel," Source Code, The Departed)
Thumbs up= Thumbs down= Thumbs sideways=

Born in New Jersey, Vera Farmiga has built a substantial career for herself as an actress, playing a range of diverse characters, from a Celtic warrior to a seductive executive. The daughter of Ukrainian parents, Farmiga grew up in a close-knit community and "went to Ukrainian Catholic school, was in the Ukrainian Girl Scouts, and did Ukrainian folk dancing in the Catskills during the summers," she explained to Interview magazine. In fact, Farmiga did not learn English until she was five or six years old. Farmiga discovered acting after being temporarily sidelined from playing soccer. She landed a role in a school play, and later chose to pursue her interest in drama at Syracuse University. After college, Farmiga found work in New York City theatrical productions. She then started working in television in the late 1990s.
"Bates Motel" serves as a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film Psycho and promises to give viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first hand just how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma, truly is and how she helped forge the most famous serial killer of them all.

She's a little odd looking at times but I find her pretty sexy.

Wow, in a strange way my guess was right.

I've never heard of her, but she's sexy and has an unusual look. Thumbs Up.

Her unusual looks compound her sexiness.

And I just realized she looks a lot like a gal I would totally have had a fling with long ago had the logistics of geographical distance not proved insurmountable.

All ze "up"s.

I think the first time I saw her was in Running Scared (not the one with Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal) in which she kicked all sorts of ass:

Apparently I saw her in The Manchurian Candidate, but Up in the Air was the first time I really got to see her. And see her I did. She was pure class and sophistication, and confident in her nude scenes. She has a natural sexiness about her.

It was nice to see her in other movies too, like Source Code, Orphan and as Keanu Reeves' love interest in Henry's Crime.

I only found out last week that she'll be starring in Bates Motel as the creepy incestuous mother of Norman Bates. I have to admit that I was surprised that she was doing television, but it's not a bad show and so far it looks like it's not afraid to push the envelope.

Never seen Running Scared. It looks like a fun action packed thriller.

I read an interview of her's some time ago where she said she wasn't interested in doing TV again. I guess the material was good enough to draw her in.

She was in a couple short-lived shows:

Touching Evil seemed pretty awesome for the episodes I did see (long after the show was cancelled, unfortunately):

UC: Undercover, on the other hand, was typical Bruckheimer:
