I wonder why terry farrell doesn't do much acting work anymore?
She either doesn't need to or want to. Or she acts in smaller productions that don't get any media attention. Actors, especially television actors, come and go quite frequently. And after working six years on a show like DS9, I could see why someone would want to take a substantial leave from acting.

I always thought Dax was a great character. Jadzia was the perfect balance between being professional and having fun. I liked Ezri because she was just cute as a button, but Jadzia really had more substance. Granted she also had six seasons to grow instead of one.

I really like Ezri, people hate that she gets more focus than anybody in S7 but uh.... there were much worse storylines. She takes focus away from that dumb as rocks Emissary/Dukat/pah-wraith storyline so I'll take her.

Still prefer Jadzia though as she stood out more from the rest due to her lack of neurosis. A calm, beautiful, mature scientist.

A forum I visit had a thread about the worst Star Trek characters and I was sad to see Jadzia and Winn get so many votes. Two of my absolute favourites. No need for them to be lumped in with Zek, Ishka and Harry Kim.

I saw Terry Farrel in January. Seemed very keen to get back into acting, I got the impression she's not getting a lot of calls. She's been taking time off to be at home with her son.

Show business is a tough game. People will still treasure DS9 decades from now as an excellent show so at least she made a mark with her career.

I personally think it was daft leaving one of the best TV shows ever to go to some bland, mediocre sitcom but that's show business and these things happen. These people don't owe us anything and are just doing their jobs.
At the time I'm not sure you could make that assertion. Becker wasn't that bad, at least the first couple of seasons.

From her perspective, she got more years of work out of it. She did Becker for 4 years, 3 years after DS9 ended. Except for William Shatner and Patrick Stewart, how many other Star Trek actors have gone on to have that much acting work after their show ended? And even though it was a mediocre sitcom, it was on a big network so she probably made more money, and I'm sure she thought it would be better exposure for getting more jobs.

To be fair to it, I've only seen like two episodes of Becker in my life so maybe I'm way off base there.

I'm not an expert at acting skills so I don't take issue with Farrell's acting chops. I did not like the character though. She frequently sounded like she was talking down to everyone. She just rubs me the wrong way.

True, but a lot of characters are like that. Odo is elitist and misanthropic to the point of hilarity.

I really like her interactions with all the cast. While Jadzia was certainly a very chilled out, enlightened character she was never smug about it like some TNG characters and always sought to enrich the lives of those around her.
Well...I'd disagree on the "smug" thing. One of her defining traits was her wisecracks at the expense of the world around her.

Still--Terry is indeed a good actress. I mean--heck, TPTB at Becker must have seen something in her, to invite her on as a regular!

I actually really like Ezri so I dunno if I'd have kept Jadzia on for S7 but she definitely deserved a better death than by the hand of some random pah-wraith. I do think there is something to be said about giving characters pointless deaths as most people in real life die pointless deaths with no greater significance or sacrifice, but I wish she'd had a more interesting exit. The character was awesome and deserved a lot more.
I agree. She and others regarded herself a warrior, she deserved to go out like one, dying to save lives, that sort of thing. And to add to that--are we to believe Worf never expressed any feelings of vengeance against Dukat?

To be honest--I'd say who you like or don't regarding the two Dax's of DS9 is akin to whether you prefer Diane or Rebecca (Cheers). I and many others will take Diane any day--but I understand fans of Rebecca. I don't care for Rebecca, personally--but I understand those who do. It's just a matter of what kind of woman strikes your fancy.

(TBH...before Rebecca's "breakdowns" and gold-digging, she strikes me as kinda like Jadzia, personality-wise. I don't know. I certainly see some of Ezri in Diane--some....)

This is genius.

All that almost-gumpy trying hard and naturally genial sweetness. They both have it. Just add some bubbles for Ezri.

^Thanks.

I actually find Ezri's bickering with Worf in "Penumbra"--and the "I seduced you?" sequence in "Strange Bedfellows" as having some shades of Sam/Diane--to an extent. The campfire scene has an "Are you as turned on as I am?" vibe to it....
