Re: Seven Of Nine Was AWESOME!!!

I was a little mad the first time watching that episode that they didn't try to sever Seven's parents from the collective. But I suppose that would have been nearly impossible.

But I wonder.. would they have tried if they had a clear and easy way to grab Magnus and sever/transport him? I get the impression they would have just left him there.

Re: Seven Of Nine Was AWESOME!!!

Once the Queen had some drone out in the depot fedex their zombie asses to her bedside to become her new yeomen?

Sure.

But the two years before Dark Frontier or the two years after Dark Frontier?

So what if they couldn't get the Flesh, why didn't Seven just take copies of their personalities from the collective gestalt?

We have to assume that digital copies of minds go in and out of drones all the time to see about business of the collective, and when a digital copy makes contact with a flesh mind they update each other on their personal adventures... So that any real mind etched into the meat of a living brain is full of so many digital experiences that it is just as fake as a digital impression of a mind wandering about in a server farm.

Seven said herself that early versions of herself still live on inside the Collective and work towards the Borg ideals of achieving universal perfection... Of course unless she was firewalled by the Queen, Seven who played out the Voyager experience, then after during Dark Frontier would have updated all earlier models with a lust for individuality to varying degrees of success.

Well, I think if Janeway had known that Seven's parents were right there and that there was a possibility of severing them, then she would have attempted to try. But Seven herself was clearly angry that her parents caused her to be assimilated (I mean...they did bring her on a ship and set out to study the Borg with a child on board. I would have been pissed if my parents put me in danger like that too). I think Janeway would have wanted to sever her father (not sure if her mother was there or still alive?) and re-humanize him and bring the family back together and all that, and I think a part of Seven would have wanted to sever him also...but I'm sure a part of her believed they deserved what they got.

Re: Seven Of Nine Was AWESOME!!!

I don't think 7 can just access anyone she's got downloaded into her mind from her time with the Borg. For one thing the memories are jumbled and fading now that she has to store them all herself.. and it seems that flashbacks just happen to her without her having control. Now maybe she could via some Vulcan meditation technique access her parent's experience as Borg. But their experience is a white noise of a billion other voices just like hers.

Severed and rehumanized far away from 7 would be for the best. Let him figure out how to live with the last 18 years before he has to figure out how to live with what his cowboy science phase did to his daughter.

Re: Seven Of Nine Was AWESOME!!!

First of all: Infinite Regress. All of it. There are thousands of complete personalities being stored inside Seven who she personally assimilated who she doesn't have any conscious communication with under normal circumstances, but they're still there ENSLAVED and tied up to the back of her mind.

(Tuvix times thousands. Janeway is a pussy.)

Second
KIM: Is there anything you don't know?
SEVEN: I was Borg.
KIM: I was Borg. That's what you always say but what does it mean? You've got the knowledge of ten thousand species in your head?
SEVEN: Not exactly. Each drone's experiences are processed by the Collective. Only useful information is retained.
KIM: Still, that probably makes you the most intelligent human being alive.
SEVEN: Probably.
KIM: So what do you need the rest of us for? Forget I asked. What was that?
And third...

SEVEN: Human attitudes toward death are perplexing.
TUVOK: How so?
SEVEN: Too much importance is placed on it. There seem to be countless rituals and cultural beliefs designed to alleviate their fear of a simple biological truth. All organisms eventually perish.
TUVOK: I take it the Borg have no fear of that biological truth.
SEVEN: None. When a drone is damaged beyond repair it is discarded, but it's memories continue to exist in the Collective consciousness. To use a human term, the Borg are immortal.
TUVOK: You are no longer part of the Collective. You are mortal now like the rest of us. Does that disturb you?
SEVEN: My connection to the Borg has been severed, but the Collective still possesses my recollections, my experiences. In a sense, I will always exist.
TUVOK: Fascinating. That must be a great relief.
SEVEN: Yes, it is.
Maybe I wouldn't remember so much if the Star Fleet uniforms were tighter?

Stupid Pulaski.

But she still can't easily choose to "take copies of their personalities from the collective gestalt" which is what I was replying to.

Re: Seven Of Nine Was AWESOME!!!

Mentally almost telepathically, under normal circumstances, on the fly, I agree with you.

But in the moment during Dark Frontier, she has ROYAL privileges and actual physical interfaces to the collective... BUTTONS, graphs and shit.

Cut and fricking paste, no different from how they moved the Doctor around or flung to the other side of the galaxy because the Federation LCARS are designed specifically to manage the ships data.

Re: Seven Of Nine Was AWESOME!!!

And really if what's wrong with her is congenital that allows Anika to prance about in Unimatrix Zero... At least one of her parents should have been in there to nurture her.

Re: Seven Of Nine Was AWESOME!!!

And they weren't!!! They abandoned her even in the secret Borg Lala land!!

I bet it's because they didn't need to escape the Collective. It was their goal to know as much about the Borg as possible so why would they want to opt out of the ultimate payoff assimilation gave them.
