In this particular case, I'm not sure what I'm talking about either. I don't even own a tv and just listen to classical music on the radio. But,what was that line from 'The American President'? by Aaron Sorkin, 'They drink the sand because they don't know the difference'.
There is one new Trek book by someone new that did sound interesting and I would/will buy it when I see it as it didn't sound derivative but rather crazily metaphysical like I like my Star Trek to be.

Glen Mazzara is cooking up...something genre.

"I've got a lot on my plate and already have deadlines. I'm excited about that stuff. As for different genres, it will be surprising," he said [in February]. "I did the horror and sci-fi genre; that's been new to me on The Walking Dead. I do have a lot of material in that space and I'm excited about a lot of stuff that's coming up."

My dream series - The Shield set in outer space - may be coming closer to reality. I'd even go for a supernatural cop show with that kind of edge.

I'll admit I've never watched The Sheild, but I know about and based on that I have no idea what The Sheild has in common with the Riddick movies, both of which I have seen.

Well, they both center on tough bald guys of questionable morality. Beyond that, I dunno either.

Except that one is in space. It's true that Riddick doesn't work for anyone other than his own sense of justice but he's like a one man A-team in space, whereas the shield guy supposedly works for the good guys but is bad. The same just reversed slightly. Which means I guess it's not the same but close.

The Shield isn't just about tough guys, it's also a twisty-turny show with a lot of terrific actors and fascinating characterization, plus it's outlandish, outrageous, over the top and sometimes funny...oh wait I just realized, I'm describing Farscape. Well okay I want another Farscape except you could do that with nothing but hew-mon characters in outer space.

Riddick and Vic Mackey are very different types, below that bald dome. Riddick is a sardonic loner while Vic is all about the pack.

I envision him as the alpha male of a wolf pack. Without his pack, he'd be utterly lost. He goes to insane lengths to keep his pack together, whether it's his family, the Strike Team or even trying to salvage the hellhole that is Farmington. Of the two types, Vic would be the more interesting as the lead character for a gritty space opera series.

Let's see, there was a reason I came back, oh yeah...John Cho has a guest role in Sleepy Hollow.

Well then Firefly is similar enough then isn't it if you're looking for likable antiheroes. It's still a rip off of Blake's Seven though.

A very lucky actress cast as Karl Urban's love interest. Well, ex, but you know how that goes.

Mekia Cox has been added to Fox’s untitled J.H. Wyman futuristic cop drama. She plays the ex-lover to John Kennex (Karl Urban).

That reminds me, doesn't "Kennex" sound suspiciously mechanical as a name for a near-future hew-non? Plot twist?

Once Upon a Time spin off in development

Yeah, I read about that, but the non-availability of Sebastian Stan to reprise the Mad Hatter is a problem - who else could anchor that series?

The plan is to center it on Alice, a character they haven't even cast yet, and is definitely unproven as to drawing power. Stan is just one of those actors who can inspire an insta-cult following. There aren't too many like him around. They should cast and introduce Alice on OUAT first, and then see if she inspires a following. Then they can think spinoff.

On that topic, Disney now has a hit movie in the Oz-verse. Maybe they could do a spinoff series based on that?
