Re: Which Uniforms Do You Prefer
In Nelson's Navy blue was the color for ship's officers and red was the exclusive color of the Lobsters, i.e. the marines. In a certain sense the choice of red for the TOS "marines" (security crewmen) was fitting. Bob

No, I think the uniforms from TMP have that naval look. I really don't care for the uniforms in the rest of the movies. To me they don't look like a daily duty uniform. |

Re: Which Uniforms Do You Prefer
I like both movie versions, by the way. 1979 looks very '70s sci-fi, a good thing, if you ask me, especially if you asked me in 1979. And I like the formal, admiralish quality of the Kahn-and-later ones. Fence-sitter on this one.

Nothing against the cast or TMP uniforms. But it seems those beige PJs wouldn't have had a long run in the movies anyway. |

Re: Which Uniforms Do You Prefer
TWOK uniforms looked nice at first, but by the end of films, they looked ill fitting and flabby compared to TNG uniforms

TUC may have garnered an NC-17 rating just for Scotty alone! |

Re: Which Uniforms Do You Prefer
http://www.usww2uniforms.com/figures_navy.html Note 9, 10, 11 and 14. The rank braid is a simplification of the naval system, and the use of those epaulettes goes back to the USN in the 19th century.
