I don't recall them being in a vehicle in "Patterns Of Force." I do recall them in a ground vehicle in TAS' "Jihad."

I have affection for TAS but don't consider it canon.

The car scene in "Patterns of Force" is when Kirk, Spock, Isak, and Daras arrive at the Nazi HQ building posing as documentarians. If I recall correctly, it's strongly implied that Kirk and Spock were in the car. I could be wrong; the DVD is at home.
Nope, you're not wrong. Soon as you specified the scene it came back to me. Yep, we don't actually see them riding in the car, but it is implied they were and had just gotten out.

^ Well, if it would have necessitated a trip through rear-projection city, to me it's just as well that they didn't go there.
No one was suggesting that, were they? Nope.

Well, another reading of what I said would be that, first of all I would have thought it was necessary to avoid rear projection, and second of all I'm unaware of any production from that era that did in fact manage to always avoid rear projection while showing characters in an open vehicle in motion. It sorta sounds like you're at least agreeing with the first part, even though I never said that anyone besides me brought up rear projection anyway.
