Yeah, it's good to be smart but no one deserves this. And it's sad that the promise of sex can have that much power.

You are on target with this. Even if it had remainied a simple robbery there was no way the thieves and the two girls would have gotten away with it. As soon as Smith left the apartment he would have had the cops nab the girls and they would give up the robbers fairly quickly.
