Re: "Amazing Spider-man 2" discussion

JD posted the first stills of Woodley as MJ on the previous page. I really don't see what the big deal about her is. Kirsten Dunst wasn't exactly the knockout MJ was supposed to be either (and I say this as a big Kirsten fan).

MJ 616 is supposed to be the hot supermodel with more to her than meets the eye (that's why Peter falls in love with her as Trekker mentioned) but it's quite clear from the casting that they don't intend Woodley to be 616 MJ. I get even more of an Ultimate Spider-Man feel from this film than I did the original.

Well, plenty of people had their problems with Dunst playing MJ, as well. Again, I really think Emma Stone would've been a perfect fit for MJ.

I googled the actress in question, and my first thought was "You're f-ing kidding me." And no, I'm not talking about how the actress looks or whether she's suitable for the part. I'm talking about all these guys who are saying she's plain looking.

^That photo isn't unflattering. She looks more like someones adorable little sister.

So maybe the bombshell red head thing just doesn't fit with Webbs Vision.

Peter will meet a down to earth Mary Jane who becomes very important later in life.

It's a more realistic approach I suppose. Two normal people getting together

I think she looks very plain in those pictures, but it is when she doesn't have any makeup on.

Re: "Amazing Spider-man 2" discussion

I'm firmly in the "Emma should have been MJ" camp - and honestly this MJ is as far away from Comics MJ as you can get.

I mean she's cute - but I dunno, even with makeup I don't see her being this "ravishing future super model". Gwen looked more "put together" in her night gown than this one does at school.

She might surprise us - never know. BUT all I ask for is that she's got a vivacious, fun, party girl, sorta wild personality. Even if she doesn't "LOOK" like a drop dead gorgeous diva - she should at least project that. Like a "I may not be the hottest girl here, but I'm gonna have fun anyway!" sort of attitude and that's what makes her "hot".

I'm still relieved to see that they are trying to world build and do more than just explore what was set up in the first movie. It seemed like the Raimi movies sort of had all the set up in the first and the second and third basically retread on elements from the first.

Lol. Yeah I'm sure that's what every guy says who's dating a sexy supermodel. He fell in love with her brain.

Quark once said to Leeta something along the lines of, "Of course you have brains. That's why I hired you. Now take your brains back to the dabo table where the customers can see them."

Lol. Yeah I'm sure that's what every guy says who's dating a sexy supermodel. He fell in love with her brain.
I've never understood the idea that admiring a woman's mind and admiring her looks are some sort of zero-sum competition where one negates the other. I've been privileged to know several women who were both stunningly beautiful and strikingly intelligent and kind. Their exteriors only complemented their inner beauty rather than competing with it.

Conversely, there have been a few women I've known who were utterly stunning to look at but had unpleasant personalities, and although I admired the view, I never came anywhere close to falling in love with them.

So I have no trouble believing that Peter fell for MJ for her personality rather than her looks. Especially since we literally saw that on the page. At first, Peter was attracted to MJ but only loved Gwen, and found MJ too flighty and shallow to be really worth his while. But after Gwen died, MJ revealed unexpected depth and kindness when she stayed to comfort him, and it was that emotional connection that was the real beginning of their relationship.

I've known about Woodley for years, so I was happy to see her get the part. She was actually my top choice for a live action Batgirl, but a role in Spider-Man is good too.
