Not seven minutes, but at least twenty seconds.

We don't plan to release the Farpoint preview online, but I want everyone to have a chance to appreciate a few moments of the great work that's been and is being done on the movie by our incredible cast and crew - and particularly in the last several months by the post production artists who are pivotal in the ongoing effort to make this movie a reality:

Maurice Molyneaux - our film editor as well a producer who also served as 1st AD, set decorator, artist, background player and a great deal more. He's become the axis on which this project turn.

Michael Struck of NEO f/x - responsible for all the CG effects you see in the clip. Talented, patient, endlessly inventive and responsive on very short notice;
Ralph Miller - our Sound Designer, whose great contributions are very much in evidence here;

Hetoreyn - his work as a composer is unfortunately not presented in this short clip, but he did incredible work on very short turnaround for our convention presentation.

To all of them as well as to our actors and crew for their hard work over several years and ongoing encouragement and support - and to the folks who came out to see us on February 16th at Farpoint - I offer my sincerest thanks and gratitude.

Thanks, Dennis. Looks great. I like the chatter, the FX, and pretty much everything.

I am experiencing a sound synchronization issue (sound not synced with video). That seems to happen for me with some YouTube videos, but not others. It could be my hardware (not the greatest) or my software (not the latest), so I don't know if it's a general problem.

I must add that a number of the background voices heard here are the work of Erik Braa, a hard working actor/voice actor in San Francisco whose voice emerges from video games and even Papa Smurf dolls. He can be seen and heard in web series such as Top Beer and Revision 3's Unboxing Porn and also on a couple of episodes of the TV series I Almost Got Away With It on InvestigationDiscovery.

Just wanted to chip in to say, I have very fond memories of working on this. I think it was the first non Trek project I was asked to do, and for that alone it has a special significance for me.

I've enjoyed and have wonderful memories of all my experiences on these sorts of projects, but there was something particularly nice about this one. Maybe because it wasn't Trek, maybe because of the people I was working with. Heck, maybe it's just because one day I'll be able to point to a DVD on a shelf and say "I worked on that."

In short, everything I've worked on holds a significance to me, but this project is my current favourite.

Of course, I may just be sucking up to Dennis so he asks me back for the sequel.

I've been agitating to not have whooshy sounds or other "Star Wars" sound elements. I would rather the scenes in space rely on music. That worked so well in "2001" and even to some extent (though they were inconsistent about it) in the Walter Koenig film "MoonTrap"

I think that sort of verisimilitude would go over well with our target audience who are the more sophisticated science fiction fans.

The final decision is not mine, however. But I thought I'd just stir the pot a little.

I tried that with Project: Potemkin, and tried as I might, I decided that audiences need that audio. We went with a rumble sort of noise more than a whoosh, but without it, and even with music, the scene was just sort of flat. I think Dennis and his production team are making the right decision with the sound effect.

They used a sort of deep throbbing noise (ooh matron) with the Prometheus and following ships in SG-1. It was clever enough not to be whooshy but obviously associated with the ship every time we saw it.

Try doing a fly by with audio only! We use fly by SFX in Excelsior simply because there's no way else to convey that particular bit of action. Oh well...sometimes science just has to take a backseat to dramatic needs.
