Han Solo...(Possible Spoilers)

They're not amazing or anything but Hamill, Fisher and Ford were very good in the original trilogy. Fisher tends to get overlooked but I thought she gave the best performance of the core three.


As a hardcore EU devotee though, I wouldn't mind if Ep VII had nothing to do with the Skywalker family. Star Wars is so much bigger than that.

They were adequate for the material but I imagine there were hundreds of starving actors in Hollywood who would've given equally adequate performances.

I thought Fisher was much more convincing in The Blues Brothers.

Plus, you can't cast the actor who first played a part if he's dead. Or if they refuse to play the part anymore, e.g. Lazenby.

There's no need for anyone of the original actors to pass the torch to younger ones. Just have the younger ones. Or just have the older ones. Or have both young and old in substantial roles, and simply fuck the torch.

I'm not sure how happy I am that they'll have to devote time to Ford's Solo in the sequel (you don't hire him for a cameo). I'm of the mind that they should only bring back Hamil as "Old Luke" to play the Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon type character and pass the torch before heroically giving his life in the climax of the first film. They're supposed to be setting up a new trilogy of films with new characters to carry them. Spending valuable screen time on characters who had their day is wasteful.

At this point, it's presumptive to assume that Episode VII will pass the torch, or that Han's role will be shoehorned in, or anything. Right now, for all we know, Han could legitimately figure into events as one of the major players in the Alliance/New Republic.

We're all fragile, but the younger you are the less likely you are to 'expire' or run into an affliction that could complicate the process.

This is not about rehashing the old movies, this is about living in the past or writing a new story. Each trilogy of the series should be about a separate generation of the Skywalker family.

What I don't want to see is some fanboy crap movie that tries to rekindle the past by regurgitating things that have already been done. Rather I want to see a continuation of the story with new characters and themes that tie nicely with those that have come before without treading over trampled ground.

I know the obvious move for the sequels is to show Han being a General and settling down with Leia, etc etc... but I think I'd much rather see him striking off on his own and becoming a bit of a renegade again. And maybe even having some of that grumpiness and edge that Ford himself now has.

He might have been willing to play along to take down the Empire, but I just can't imagine him wanting to be the noble, upstanding leader forever.
