Re: Does It Get Better???

Never seen Die Hard?

You were an Adult in the 80s!

Is this becuase you hated Moonlighting?

One doesn't watch Die Hard because Bruce is fuckable, one watches Die Hard to see Willis get fucked up! You know how in the old movies, the hero would walk through a hail of bullets and they'd all miss, or bounce? In this movie every bullet hits it's mark, but it just makes the balding SOB more surely.

Young Alan Rickman with a German accent?

How's that for fuckability?

I like to assume that a telepathic salt Vampire tricked everybody and is eating Neelix while pretending to be his girlfriend.

Re: Does It Get Better???

Alan Rickman is a lovely actor who brings something special to every role but I was just never in the Alan Rickman swoon club.

There's a lot of things I've never watched because I didn't have tv reception or sometimes a tv so the whole deal where you passively slump on the couch and let stuff wash over you that you would never have chosen didn't happen that often. And there was absolutely nothing about Die Hard that would have made me rent it from the video store during the renting era. My friend made me watch all the Lethal Weapons at her house, I wasn't in a hurry to pick anything else off the Action shelf after that.

"The renting era"

Do you mean physically going to a shop, or does payperview-streaming count as still the renting-era, I know you were talking about your own personal era, but I can see this being a reference to the development as us as a society no different than the pushbutton-age or the tvdinner-age.

The only movies I haven't seen are Lethal Weapon 1 and Top Gun.

I have seen every other movie ever made.

And I believe you.

I have seen about half of Top Gun, I was trapped somewhere when it was on.

I mean the rental era of physically going to a shop. I never paid for any streaming, I don't know if we even have that kind of thing.

A lot of my huge gaps in movies/tv I blame on rewatching. I'm a cud chewer. I've had to drag myself off my rewatching Trek kick to watch new stuff, I'm doing Farscape next

I spent the video era immersed in these:

I've got that, several different copies of THX-1138, the first two seasons of TOS, V and Dinotopia on video, everything else I've given away.

I am really going to miss you folks when I finish this show and this thread disappears. Seriously, you are some of the most funny and creative Trek fans I know.
I don't even spend most of my time in the Voyager forum... I just so happened to pick this thread up at the beginning, and decided to stick with it all the way to the end. Of which you are almost there. Congrats!

Also, I thought it was somewhat a shame that in its first two seasons Voyager introduced all of these folks in Engineering, and by the end of the first episode of S3 they've all been eliminated from the show. It was nice having that string of secondary characters.
Joe Carey's not dead!

I'll leave this post spoiler-free.
Found another Joe Carey post, this one #211 from way back in the first episode of Season 3! Clearly he was alive at the time of the post, but has since died in Season 7, literally 4 episodes from the end of the series.

Such a bullshit way to go for Carey. Janeway is such a bitch.

Glad you ended up liking the show, even though it took five years to get to your favorite seasons, 6 and 7.

I still think VOY seasons 4-7 was pretty much the same thing. The show found its identity when Seven arrived and it stopped changing.

TNG was the same way. Every season after season 3 feels like a sequel to that year. Season 4 was S3 part 2, Season 5 was S3 part 3, etc...

Re: Does It Get Better???

I had a dream this morning about Carey. I was sitting in my local Vietnamese place studying the menu trying to decide between rice or noodles. Rice or noodles, rice or noodles.. (in reality I always pick noodles) it seemed like a big decision but all of a sudden the plastic photo menu was a picture of Carey on one page and Kim on the other. And the choice was no longer rice or noodles but who to kill off in season 7, Carey or Kim. And I had this huge revelation that killing off Kim was the inspired choice because it would have way more emotional impact since he was a regular crew member, Tom's friend etc..!! And I was saying to myself "four episodes from home and Kim dies, now that's brave! that's hard core! Wow!"

Really, they should have done that.

Re: Does It Get Better???

From Before and After

PARIS: That was the beginning of the year of hell.
KES: Year of hell?
PARIS: That's what some of us call it now. We were under virtually constant attack by a race called the Krenim. The ship almost didn't make it. The Doctor was offline for months, and we lost a lot of good people. Captain Janeway, Joe Carey, B'Elanna.
KES: B'Elanna.
PARIS: I keep forgetting that you don't remember any of them. B'Elanna was someone who was very special to me. When she died, I felt like I wanted to die too, but you, you helped me through it. I'm sorry.
KES: No, no, it's my fault. You haven't done anything wrong. It's just
Other than the TNG episode with Josh Clark in it which some bright sparks insist is Joe Carey, above is the only mention of Carey in an episode which Joe didn't appear in.

So, it seems like he got 3 extra years than he was supposed to.
