It's pretty obvious that it's a toy limitation. The shuttle bay is too small for the shuttle to it in it, so they stuffed it behind the deflector dish. I had similarly bizarre toy ships that were all bridge when you opened them up (like the Defiant).

I have an old Corgi TOS Enterprise model that opens up the secondary hull like bomb-bay doors to release its bright orange shuttle. And it fires photon discs out of the saucer.

The Mego TOS bridge playset has a transporter where the turbolift doors should be.

The TMP bridge playset has a round airlock door in the wall.

The Playmates TNG Engineering playset connects to the TNG bridge.

Nah. This is the fighter pod thing King Daniel was talking about it. They do it for Star Wars toys too.

The Galoob TNG figures are actually my favorite Trek toyline. Sure, they were kind of no-frills and the articulation was simple, but they were toys meant to be played with and didn't require you refinance your mortgage to buy them all.

They were certainly better than Playmates' Star Trek XI figures, IMO.

Based on the new pics of the Kreo BoP, I think it's safe to say that it looks underwhelming from the front. They got rid of the defining Klingon design element of a head on a thin neck, so now it looks like a generic fighter craft.

That's what it looks to me too. I think it's safe to say that it's Bird of Prey in name only.

I think the only way Galoob name would come back is if Hasbro did a series of 2-inch Titanium diecast Star Trek ships like they did for both Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica.

Different alien (Grasia) but supposedly same actress who played the non-CGI parts of Alnschloss K'Bentayr. I also see the mysterious Lt. Sprog in that set.
