New details on upcoming '60s Batman merchandise

The most exciting thing for some fans from this announcement though is the confirmation that we will be seeing 6" figures of the classic Adam West Batman TV series. WBCP confirms we will be getting: Mattel vintage-styled Batman Ken® and Catwoman Barbie® collection, and a BATMAN™ Classic TV Series 6" Figure Assortment, BATMAN™ Classic TV Series TV Moments 2 Pack, as well as a BATMAN™ Classic TV Series Batmobile. Rubie's will introduce a line of costumes based on series favorites including Batman, Robin, Catwoman, The Riddler, and The Joker.

Other companies granted the 'classic 60s' Batman license include Funko, Mezco, NECA, and Cryptozoic. There will also be a variety of high-end collectibles from Noble Collection, Sideshow Collectibles, TriForce, Kotobukiya, Medicom and Hot Toys. Finally, Hot Wheels will be creating a high-end Elite Scale replica inspired by the 1966 Batmobile.
Superhero Hype

The 6-inch figures are what I'm excited about.

We should be seeing images of the products once the Toy Fair starts in a couple weeks.

Got some Toyfair pics.

From NECA, a 1/4 scale Batman:

And from Hasbro, we have the figures:

Superhero Hype had a few good shots that AFI didn't have:

Yes, that's a Surfer Batman figure.

Does he come with a can of Shark Repellent Batspray?

Even better, if they decide to make more vehicles, they should make a Batcopter that comes with a rope ladder and rubber shark.

And for those confused about the surfer Batman figure, he actually surfed, complete with trunks, in the show:

Too bad that Batman didn't surf in the Nolan trilogy

My only disappointment so far is that the Gorshin Riddler isn't wearing the much cooler dress suit and bowler hat. But I can understand why they went with the tights.

I'm not an action figure collector but I think I'm getting all of these.

Interesting figures. Unfortunately, the sculpt for Robin looks nothing like Burt Ward.

I wonder if Mattel will produce a Batcycle for the 6-inch scale?

I don't know. I sort of see the resemblance. It could just be a bad shot. The other sculpts look spot on.

DC to launch digital-first Batman comic based on classic TV show
  • DC Comics will expand its digital-first comics line this summer with the debut of Batman ’66, a series based on the classic television series.

The announcement came last night in Hollywood, where Warner Bros. Consumer Products launched its Batman Classic Television Series licensing program during an event co-hosted by Junk Food Clothing and Meltdown Comics.

Inspired by the television series, which aired from 1966 to 1968 on ABC, Batman ’66 is written by Jeff Parker and illustrated by Jonathan Case. In an ironic turn, Michael Allred, whose Adam West/Batusi cover (below) couldn’t be used for DC’s Solo because of legal issues, will be providing the cover for the first issue. Like the DC’s other digital-first comics, Batman ’66 will be collected monthly in print.

“The juxtaposition of offering a retro Batman ’66 comic as a current and modern digital first title is fun,” DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson said in a statement. “DC Entertainment is the most prolific producer of digital first comics and, as we work to create new and compelling content, this is a great way to also preserve the legacy of our characters. It’s exciting to roll out the new Batman ’66 comic as part of this bigger initiative with our Warner Bros Consumer Product partners.”

Art looks pretty good though I could live without some of the weird coloring flourishes and wish Allred was doing interiors as well. Either way, I'm looking forward to this. As much as I love "real" Batman the TV show was my introduction go the character and I'll always love it for that.

And Julie Newmar is still the best Catwoman ever.

Also Moebius Models announced a series of 1/10 scale figure model kits of Bats, Robin, Riddler, Penguin, Joker, and Catwoman (they're still negotiating with Yvonne Craig for Batgirl) on interlocking bases, with accurate actor-face sculpts.

From time to time, i'm so tickled that the 1966 Batman drives all of the Frank Miller/Nolan fans crazy. They wish all memory of the series would vanish, but it keeps on rolling, over 4 decades later!
