Proto matter and red matter ??

Just watched TSFS again and i noticed that savvik and David where discussing the genesis affect to the planet and David admitted that he had used the dangerous substance proto matter in the experiment. I'm wondering if red matter is the same substance that spock try use to stop the supernova in trek 09 seems realistic don't you think ??

I don't think they're the same. Protomatter was said to be unstable (probably in the explosive sense), not that it created artificial black holes. If memory serves, protomatter was in the explosive the Bashir changeling tried to use to destroy the Bajoran sun. However, the two substances may be related.

Other than the word "matter" in the name, they're nothing alike. Trek's also dabbled with Dark Matter (a real... well, hypothetical real thing) in Voyager.

According to the novelverse (DTI: Watching the Clock), Red Matter was discovered in 2383, and at that time had only been synthesized in microscopic quantities. And they didn't actually know how a runaway chain reaction of any significant quantity would would end.

If proto-matter is related to matter in the same way proto-planet is related to planet, then dark matter, red matter and chocolate matter are all made out of proto-matter.
