I liked the show from the start. Interesting plots and good actors, unlike Atlantis.

Eli got to with his cute redhead on Destiny, at least once, I think
All we know canonically is that he took his shirt off while in her room.

Hey, I'm sorry, canon is canon.
Man, that's cold. Dude gets play once in 2 years, and you wanna take it away from him
Wait a minute we have the Eli who ended up on the planet which jump started the civilization where they played it that he was the last one to hook up with a most likely lesbian Marine who had kids for the team when Wray would not. Although to be fair Wray was at an age where a possible pregnancy was not a sure thing

I'm sure they could have rigged up a turkey baster for Wray. They needed children and every extra bit in the gene pool was going to benefit their future. How come she got to be selfish and others didn't?

That does make me wonder something, though. I'm not very knowledgeable about population statistics and the gene pool and all that, so... There were about 80 people (give or take) on Destiny, right? Is that enough people to create a population numbering in the millions two thousand years later without any significant genetic complications?

I remember someone doing the maths, and it was indeed possible to do healthily, but it would have needed strict organization. More likely they just went at it as normal people would, and the gene pool suffered early on. Still, it would certainly have been possible.

She is old enough that it was not a sure thing. Perhaps she was sterilized somewhere in her past and then her only duty to the society would have been as a sexual partner for an excess straight man. But SGU didn't play it like that, we were lead to believe the Eli was the last man left standing and the cute Corporal had their child.

Re: Am I the only one who loves SGU?

So maybe they did turkey baste and it failed?

How old is Wray anyway?

The last man standing thing was stupid, Eli is very smart and reasonably good looking. Has shown himself to be practical and a hard worker. The only reason I can see for his last man status was that he was younger than a lot of them.

Re: Am I the only one who loves SGU?

Maybe Wray just can't have children. And if she's around the same age as her actress, Ming-Na, she was probably in her mid- to late forties.

As for Eli being the "last man standing," in a real-world scenario he probably wouldn't have been because he's a smart guy, gets along well with just about everyone, and is reasonably attractive (and probably would be even more so if he shed some weight, which more than likely would have happened after a few years of hard living on Novus). But it makes sense from a dramatic standpoint, and he ended up with someone in the end, so it's all good.

They were all presumably smart however either Stargate Special Forces or contracted civilian specialist. Only the Lucian Alliance survivors should have added Common Joe DNA to the pool.

I'm not really sure Greer was all that smart. And some of the others didn't come across too bright either.. though if you were in a survival situation you would pick Greer over a dorky scientist.

I think people taking the "last man standing" thing so seriously is a bit silly. It was a throwaway line to suggest that people were getting together while Eli was still alone, not that literally everyone was and he wasn't.

More of a producers weakness in execution he was a baby USMC Master Sergeant, by definition he was smart and driven to excellence. And in the romance department he was among the first shown to couple off. And like it or not by SGU canon Eli was the last. Just as in Trek where we have picked over one line of dialog or a screen shot capture for decades the same rules exist for other shows do they not

Re: Am I the only one who loves SGU?

Of course. That is what this this current conversation is about. And that's interesting about Greer, I am the person who never pays attention to ranks and military bizness. I just assumed he was a skilled grunt.

With that much science on planet I would hope they would have taken the gene pool into consideration. What was gender ratio?

They shouldn't apply to either. It's a ridiculous position to take. It was a throwaway line, not one to be taken literally, and certainly not to be considered as 'canon'. That's absurd.

It's absurd that they said Eli was last man standing and we think it is canon that he was?
