I am so sorry to hear about your dad, Candlelight. I lost my mom 10 years ago and I can tell you the pain gets less but it never goes away.

The best advice I can give you is if you need to cry, please cry. Let it all out. It's no good keeping it inside. Feel what you need to feel.

And watch for a sign from your dad. He will let you know that he has made it to Heaven and he is alright.

Seconded. When we buried my grandfather who was a train nut, just as the casket was being lowered into the ground, a train came by on adjacent track and blew it's whistle.

You have my condolences, Candlelight. My Dad passed away just over a year ago after a bout of pneumonia. If you want to talk, just send me a PM.

So sorry for your loss, Candlelight. My own Dad died February 18 of last year. Dad, who was a retired NASCAR race driver, died on the first day of race season last year. I think my most difficult time will be watching that first race and thinking of Dad. Race day was always our special time to visit. He always had some insight about racing that suddenly made the race come alive to me.

You will find your own special trigger, too. It will come when you least expect it... a small thing. A car will pass like the one your dad owned, etc. Instead of being sad, use those triggers to recall pleasant memories and special times spent together.

My prayers and best wishes to all who have lost loved ones.

Agreed. For me, it seems to be the start of baseball season. Dad was a huge baseball fan and we spent a lot of time watching the games together. Last year (Dad passed in Dec 2011), I wound up watching very few games because of this. i am hoping that I will be able to watch at least half the games this year (both Diamondbacks fans).

It's been a year and 3 days since my dad died on January 23rd 2012.

It gets better. But not right away. He is the reason that I love things like Star Trek, Star Wars and Doctor Who. I've had my avatar for a year now, and I told myself that I would take it down after a year...it's still up....But somehow it does get better.

It took me five years to finally really grieve, and even then I cry sometimes.

He was the person who understood me the best. It was spooky how similar we were.

I'm so sorry...I'll keep your family in my prayers. My father died in February, 2010. This time of year seems to be deadly; so does July.
