It isn't Cabot Cove that is dangerous, it is simply one of the residents. If Jessica Fletcher left the town the murders followed her and Cabot Cove became quiet and peaceful. Why the residents don't gather up their pitchforks and run Jessica out of the town is beyond me.

Also most of the people who get murdered in Midsomer County are stuckup toffs or other disagreeable people who have it coming. It is reasonably safe for Mr and Mrs Average to live in the county and, in fact, the high murder rate actually improves the quality of life in the county.
