Sure, exploration is the template for most of ST, but like any story template, it's a framework for exploring characters and ideas. It's the character work in CotS, and the potent way in which ST's core values and optimism are explored and affirmed, that make it so effective.

Children of the Storm gets my vote. Full Circle is great, too, but the first part of the novel gets dragged down by all of the horrible leftover Christie Golden stuff that has to be resolved. Once that's out of the way, the novel picks up tremendously.

You could have shortened the subject of this thread from "Best Beyer Voyager Book Thus Far" to "Best Voyager Book Thus Far" and gotten the same results. Just a thought.

I went with Children of the Storm but I'm not going to argue with you if you picked Full Circle.

I'd rate them this way: flawed, good, fantastic, great.

Full Circle starts with a lot of promise in the first half, but just gets too bogged down. I think Children of the Storm is one of the best Trek books I've ever read. All in all, the relaunch is what Voyager has needed for a long, long time.

A toss between Full Circle and Children Of The Storm, since I found them both equally good. Unworthy was ok. Eternal Tide... still not sure. I really should re-read. I got put off by the return of Janeway.

I voted for Full Circle because it was the first of Beyer's post TV series Voyager books. It's the first that made us go "Wow! that was really good and it made us care about Voyager." After that, we just expected good things and got them. I voted for the one that gave us the biggest surprise of all.

The String Theory trilogy I never really found to move along that well, so out of that list, the String Theory book would be the weakest.
