It's funny. Everyone I know criticized the first one because Kirk got promoted way too quickly to Captain, and NOW the characters realize in the second one that he got promoted way too quickly to Captain.
So it's a feature, not a bug.

It just makes all of the characters even greater morons.

Picard was only 27 or 28 when his act of bravery was rewarded with the command of the Stargazer.

Seemed to work okay for the continuing existence of Earth, though.

I wouldn't say it makes the characters morons, but it doesn't exactly paint Starfleet in a good light. Then again, neither do other events in the film IMO.

Ok but ...

You have taken account of Picard's length of previous service in Starfleet I assume?

What size ship was the Stargazer again?

But Picard was at least a Lieutenant Commander already, when that happened. He skipped one less rank than Kirk.

Pike dying or becoming wheelchair bound because of Kirks recklessness would be as much a punch in his gut as ours.

Btw, the quote in this threads title and included by the OP should prove to scorners they are trying to make this Trek have substantive quality's. It speaks volumes to me of an intended, deliberate evolution.

For JJTrek mockers to say it's simply all sparkle and 'splosions is akin to the same mistakes nontrekkers/bashers have always made; not really paying close enough attention to what they are witnessing.
It's "qualities.". If you're going to be critical at least try to minimize your own mistakes. Just sayin'.

If my experience is anything to go by, a certain number of mistakes only appear after I click the post botton! The little beggers.

Besides, I love your use of an apostrophe in order to show you had "abbreviated" a word that only required one more letter anyway?!
Don't do that on a game show.
