Cold Equations book 1 question? (potential spoilers)

So far i love this book!!

DR Soong on page 172 describes a mission during the Dominon War about Data discovering the secret history of ai in the Milkyway. WHAT novel is this from?

Jeffrey Lang's fantastic Immortal Coil. I recommend reading it before you read books 2 and 3 since it continues the story begun in that book.
