I totally love the notes about that episode which state, among other things, that J.G. Hertzler derived Laas' method of speaking from William Shatner, also the note about "And then the Swedish guy comes in..."

The Federation became friendly with the Kelvans at the end of the episode. And Laas wasn't an adversary, per se.
