Last Classic Who Story you watched - Page 15

For Christmas I got "The Awakening" and "Ghost Light." I haven't seen "The Awakening" in over a decade so I'm excited to see it again, especially since it features my favorite Doctor.

Agree about Hartnell but for me The Chase is one of his worst stories - only episode 6 works well.

Yeah, I read somewhere that Jon Pertwee thought an attack by two Daleks was pretty ridiculous, but I seem to recall they weren't impressed with it in general. I may well be thinking of something else, though.

Hartnell is very much underrated. There are some...err...ordinary serials in his era but his Doctor (along with many of his companions) is brilliant, IMO.

So I watched The Awakening and found it to be quite similar to Moffat's Who in its tone.

Listened again to Marco Polo - one of the greatest Who stories.

Had a bad cold over Christmas and was in a lot so managed to watch quite a few Davison's with the commentary on - Davison and Fielding make a great team, very funny.

I watched The Horror of Fang Rock last night which I had started weeks ago but then got distracted away from. While the story itself didn't really grab me I enjoyed the quirky and interesting minor characters, Leela's and the Doctor's interactions and also Tom Baker's antics. It's quite the contrast to Pertwee's Doctor but I like the craziness. I especially enjoyed the few scenes where Leela reminded him that he was a Timelord and that therefore he'd make short work of the enemy. That he had to be reminded of his power and skills and see the trust others have in him was a nice touch.

I finished Warrior's Gate just this morning, it's a great but sad story as it's the lst Romana story and it heralds the end of the Tom Baker era.

That episode has some awesome, darker moments for the Doctor such as when he gleefully announces that they're probably all going to die.

Planet of Giants ... Watched the as-aired version. I watched some of the reconstruction of episode 3, but was too tired to keep going. Quite a nice story, though some odd editing choices in that "final" combined episode.

I don't think I was aware of this at first. It was filmed as four episodes. Someone at the BBC decided three and four were too slow, and had those edited together as a single episode. That left a one-episode hole in the schedule that was later filled by the Dalek cutaway leading into Dalek Masterplan.

It ends up being similarly structured to the modern episodes.

It would have easily worked as an 11/Amy and Rory story I thought when I watched it.
