Wait, you have to PAY to listen to them make unfunny comments about a movie?
I highly doubt that's even legal, as they are clearly profiting from the work of others. I don't think that's fair use.

Sure it is; all the content - audio of lame jokes - are theirs. It's also parody, which is especially protected in IP cases.

They aren't reproducing any copyrighted material. It's legal. Derivative works consisting of commentary are Fair Use. Otherwise, movie reviews would be illegal!

They're not doing anything illegal. They're simply making the commentary which you play along with your DVD of the movie.

What the heck is going on in this thread? I though MST3K, and by extension Rifftrax, was one of the ultimate sacred cows of nerdom. Where is all this hate popping up from?

Everyone's entitled to an opinion, I doubt there are truly any sacred cows (besides, burgers are tasty).

Rifftrax dares to make fun of "good" movies? They dare to seek profit on their time and work by charging $4? I'll admit the sample(s) of the Avengers Riff aren't great but the samples are rarely indicative of the best jokes, unlike trailers to movies they don't spoil the best in the previews. The whole thing is hardly their best work either but there is some good, humorous, stuff in it. It's just fun to watch movies with these guys. (Though the VODs are much, much funnier (also tend to be much more expensive.)

The Avengers Riff is a decent one, though. But hardly as hard -hitting as their Riffs on, say, the Twilight movies. It is "hard" to riff on a good movie.

Here are a pair of featurettes from ILM explaining hown they created the Hulk and the Hulks importance to the film.

Interesting stuff. I could watch this kind of stuff for hours.
