You mean that with eight episodes to go and then a special, the latter will involve "the fall of the eleventh" iteration of Clara? Intriguing, but sounds gloomy and fatalistic. It would mean nearly a year of Greek tragedy for the show.

Others have pointed out that her birth date is November 23rd and that she died at the age of 26, so her life kind of reflects the show's first run in a metatextual sense.

Remember when Donna had to make sure she died in that car crash?, perhaps Clara has to do the same either to undo the doctors mess or perhaps change the future.

What ever happens we will all be guessing right up to the big reveal.

I find this idea very intriguing. However, while Clara dying at the end of every episode would be super annoying, I think even more annoying would be the Doctor having to meet her again and again at the beginning of every episode.

I think this is about right. I suspect it's just the year's plot (the only one that spanned more than a year is River and that's because she didn't appear every episode).

Anyway, I suspect the answer is none of the above and involves some kind of splitting in time. My guess is modern day Clara is first and whatever happens happens later. Basically, they are echoes in time created by something. But I'm not really going to think about it, I'm fine just enjoying the ride.

As for Clara dying in each episode. It's an intriguing idea, but would get old quickly. The episodes aren't long enough to have to introduce her as a companion each time. And, while she may have some vague notion of herself in other timelines, she doesn't seem to remember everything.

It could be that the Clara we met at the end of the episode is going to be the companion Clara, and she and the Doctor will be seeking out other Claras (Clarae?) elsewhere in history. Maybe she's fragmented through time like Scaroth in "City of Death," and they need to merge her with all her other selves (those who survive, anyway).

I'm sure there's probably a clue somewhere in the upcoming episodes. We know there's one where they travel to the heart of the TARDIS, so maybe that's when she gets split off into three different time streams.

I know she isn't, but I rather wish she was a fob watched Romana, because she'd make a great incarnation of the character.

I really hope she isn't a returning character because that will complicate things even further than Moffat usually does. I'd much rather she were bait for the Doctor, or some kind of shattered existence caused by later events of the original modern day incarnation, or something of that sort. I just don't see any benefit in making her a timelord or a projection of the TARDIS or whatever else any more than River benefited from being turned into a timeheaded child of his companion.

I don't see any benefit of making her a past character, but I also don't see any benefit of making her a plant or weapon of some kind - that's too derivative of River and it would just make the Doctor even more tragic.

My guess is The Doctor is going to find more versions of Clara only for them to die. The Doctor becomes so grief stricken at loosing companion after companion that he finally turns mad. He tries all sorts of ways to revive her and somehow ends up creating so many duplicate copies of her all across space and time that he is eventually bound to bump into one sooner or later, which is what his younger self bumped into.
