Re: Latest acquisition!

Woo hoo! "Star Trek: TNG, Cold Equations: The Body Electric" by David Mack has just arrived at Galaxy Bookshop. Now I have a whole trilogy to travel with me around the USA! I leave on Sunday afternoon, travel for many hours and arrive... on Sunday morning.

Ain't time travel wonderful?

From Amazon UK this week, I received the JJ starships "Star Trek 2013" calendar (Danilo) - I can now see why some people thought this somehow replaced the US "Ships of the Line 2013" (Universe Publishing). Nope. I know have both.

From Amazon US this week, the "Captain's Log Engagement Calendar 2013" calendar/diary (Universe Publishing). The full-page captioned colour pics from four decades of Trek are most welcome after Universe revived the desk block calendar, only to eradicate all the pictures!

The Body Electric was there at my local bookstore and they almost never have new books out this early...it must be due to Christmas. I'm sure they'll be back to putting them out on time or slightly late in the new year.

Re: Latest acquisition!

What a surprise! Universe Publishing's "Ships of the Line 2013", "TOS Calendar 2013" and "Captain's Log Engagement Calendar 2013" diary were all on shopping mall calendar racks today! New publisher, new ball game. I'm fairly sure this is the first time ST calendars have been distributed Down Under in many years (1997?), excepting the JJ ST movie calendar for 2010.

Re: Latest acquisition!

'Twas a Treklit-ish Xmas for me. I decided to be more direct with loved ones this year, and offered specific titles that I was interested in, a tradition I will continue in years to come; I'm happier, they're happier, we're all happier.

In any case:

-Federation: The First 150 Years; this was actually a much delayed birthday present that came a few days ago. Pretty darn impressed. Am working my way through slowly. The visuals are beautiful. The story is well-done. I found that the WWIII section felt a bit oversimplified, which took me out of the narrative, but I really liked the Romulan War story (quite a bit more than I liked the Pocket Books version), and I'm really liking the early days of the Federation. Looking forward to Christopher's alternate take on it in the spring.

-Ships of the Line: 2013: gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

-Star Trek: The Next Generation IDW Omnibus: it certainly is... big. Nearly 500 pages. I've read the first 50 so far, and, while the quality so far is varying, I'm enjoying it, and am looking forward, in particular, to The Last Generation. I do wish the book was a bit larger, physically; the comics feel a bit cramped.

-Spock vs. Q audiobook: Aw yeah.

I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday to get The Body Electric, but they were out (which is, all in all, a good thing!), so I will go later this week, which is fine by me, because I want to finish rereading Silent Weapons first.

EDIT: Also, the TNG 365 book. Very cool, that is.

Re: Latest acquisition!

I read the description of Allegiance in Exile, it's very intriguing. Maybe one book I will read when I'm in a mood of reading a TOS novel.
On my side I bought Federation: The First 150 Years. The Special Exhibit is a little bit to big for my small appartment so for the moment it will probably stay in the box, but I had a quick look in the book and it seems very interesting.

Re: Latest acquisition!

Hehehehe. Quick update. Still in Los Angeles, off home tomorrow. I just received an email from Galaxy Bookshop in Sydney (dated tomorrow), and the new "Allegiance in Exile" novel has just arrived there. Well, I had a scoop for all of four days.
