Although I do have an issue with Section 31 itself. The good guys have a secret club that dabbles in genocide? It's stupid. Like if Captain America were seen shooting up on heroin in a brothel in The Avengers.
I couldn't agree with you more. It was probably just some sort of childish modern rebellion against TOS's and particularly TNG's more up-beat view of the future.

The way they work in TOS sound effects is good enough for me. Although during an attack, when all departments are reporting their damage to the bridge, I'd love to hear, "Gravity is down to point eight."

Kirk Prime had some dealings with Section 31 in the novels, so I've got no problem with him becoming aware of them in the alternate reality.

Section 31 should be left to the comics; as part of the misdirection campaign.

To be fair, the Trek Lit authors really came up with the whole "Section 31 is involved in all sorts of foolhardy and unethical things on a grand scale for little to no reason" when DS9 was just "Section 31 is doing ethically questionable things to benefit the Federation in the long term." Hell, Section 31's goals and thought processes were certainly a lot more comprehensible than Starfleet's in DS9, given that a decent chunk of DS9 revolved around the repercussions of an incredibly stupid treaty Starfleet was enforcing.

Perhaps but I assume DS9 originated the Section 31 idea and in any event, I got the feeling King Daniel was objecting to the basic concept of such an organisation existing within the ST framework.

By coincidence, I just saw this in TrekMovie's Twitter feed:

Q: @RDPomin: @TrekMovie Will Kirk wear a green Command shirt in the movie?
A: This was asked at @bad_robot visit day, answer was 'no'
While that's not a "never," it looks as though you won't be seeing it this time.

I'd really like to see the character Number One in an AbramsTrek film. At least as a cameo.
