Re: Season 2 gag reel
*all cast members present* "ENERGISE!!! " That's classic. This is what we've missed all these years, up yours Berman, what's wrong with showing the cast having fun and having a damn good laugh along the way! (Though you can tell it must've been hard work for the editors, the directors at the time didn't seem too keen on keeping the cameras rolling if something funny (but unrelated) was happening....

Re: Season 2 gag reel
Shows like "TV Bloopers & Practical Jokes" pay huge royalties for permission to use blooper footage, but the TOS bloopers were taken to SF conventions in the early 70s and were illegally copied, escaping into the public domain. When the first season TNG bloopers did likewise, twenty years later, the cast of TNG pulled rank and vetoed blooper screenings at conventions unless appropriate royalties were to be paid. There was no budget for the legal work required to get blooper releases done properly. Not Rick Berman's fault at all, IIRC.

Re: Season 2 gag reel
Of course, that doesn't explain the gag reels that we've seen for DS9, VOY, and ENT. Brief as the former two are, they do exist. And the ENT ones are on the official DVDs, so clearly they didn't have a problem with releasing them by that point.
