Re: And Cumberbatch's Character Is? [spoilers]

All of this back-and-forth stuff re: people trying to read way too much into this character's name is starting to leave me rather annoyed. It's obvious that Roberto Orci, way back when he gave the interview in which he said/hinted that Cumberbatch's character was from established TOS lore, did a classic switcheroo by telling us that Alice Eve's character was new to canon and Cumberbatch's character was taken from TOS lore when the opposite is actually true.

Now that’s a stretch. Remember that Orci later commented that he misspoke with regards to one of those characters. Clearly Cumberbatch is Harrison the extra from TOS; Orci misspoke about Alice Eve cum Carol Marcus being a new character.

The “ultimate villain?”

Well, another villain besides Cumberbatch, anyway.

Not to be too gauche, but I must recant my above argument, at least in part. I now am of the opinion that rather than Redshirt Harrison from TOS, John Harrison is in fact Johnny, the kid on the side of the road at the beginning of Star Trek (2009). Frankly, this scenario makes much more sense than J.J. having bombed the typecasting of a Star Trek (the original series) extra-cum-supervillain.

I thought of that too initially, but J.J. specifically said that the villain would be from TOS. Johnny is not from TOS.

True, but as I posted on another thread:

…As for Orci’s admitted having lied about one of the characters in the TrekMovie.com interview, I can easily imagine myself having been asked that question, focusing in the moment on the word “canon” and completely missing the “original Star Trek” [sic] part. In that case, I would have answered, “canon,” for Harrison, thinking of Johnny having been added to the canon in Star Trek (2009), and I think that’s what Bob Orci did, then after re-reading the question in the article and realizing his error he commented on it.

In fact, that sounds exactly like something I would do, especially in his shoes.

Robert Orci never said that Alice's character was new to canon. In fact....

TrekMovie.com: OK let’s start with Alice Eve. Canon or new?
