But who thinks the character is called John Harrison through the whole movie right up to the end when there is a BIG REVEAL as to either who he really is or what name he will be taking on from that point on? You know, "I am no longer Harrison.. that man is dead. You may call me.. <awesome TOS canon reveal>"

Also I can't get the sci fi writer M. John Harrison out of my head now.

It's obvious that Roberto Orci did a classic 'switcheroo' play when he told us that Cumberbatch's character was someone from TOS lore and Alice Eve's character was new to canon.

Harrison is TOS Canon S1 (and S2), he just was a No name extra 99.9% of the time (And got shoved from Department to Department, LOL).

Carol Marcus is not TOS Canon, she's TOS Movie Canon

Since Carol Marcus is not new to canon in any way and Orci said that he was only lying about one of the two things he said vis a vis characters, he was therefore pulling a switcheroo on us, and lied about which of the two characters was actually from canon and which one was not.

I really don't think this is obscure dude named Harrison from TOS. I think it's a brand new character unless that turns out to be his pseudonym and we still have a big reveal before us.

It's been a heck of a lot of fun hunting for clues and tidbits of information as to who Cumberbatch was going to play. When I read for the first time it was John Harrison I had a complete moment of WTF. Like a lot of other fans I was convinced that it was someone from TOS that was very well known to us. I didn't even know who John Harrison was until another member of the forum pointed me to a wiki article. I can't believe that a dude who walked around in the background in a few scenes and maybe tapped a few buttons would be wonderful fodder for the big bad villain. Maybe the name's the same but the two characters have no relation to one another. Hell, I dunno. Well, I guess now we'll just shift gears and wonder why John Harrison, occasional button pusher, is now a one man army and why he's so ticked off at the Federation. Im certainly all eyes and ears.

Kinda glad it's not Khan, myself. If they were to cast Khan, you'd think that today they'd actually cast someone with Indian bloodlines and not lilywhite Benedict Cumberbatch. Sunil Shetty would be a pretty badass Khan. Though I could see Ben Kingsley too....he'd make a great "Khan as a dictator" type.

Alice Eve as Carol Marcus? I like that too. Hope she's more than a damsel in distress.
