Anyone getting a Wild Wild West vibe after watching the trailer? We all know how well that movie did...

Kind of, yeah.

The trouble with making Westerns colorful and zany-looking is that the actual look of the era is far more conducive to grim and serious stuff, a la True Grit, than POTC-style madcappery. After all, isn't Lone Ranger pretty much a Zorro ripoff, sans the Romance of swordplay, and the vibrant colors of Latin culture? The Mask of Zorro had a realistic art design, but the hacienda scenes were still plenty lively.

One could always go back to the woozy, psychedelic Western color schemes of the '50s (like how Doc dressed up Marty), but that'd take some serious brass, and probably a strong metatextual vibe to boot. They're obviously not going for that approach here...

Lol, That would have been genius! Combine Lone Ranger with the old "singing cowboy" movie style of the 40's and 50's! The Lone Ranger, a musical.

I think I could actually see that working in a strange way.

I like the new trailer, it reveals more about the characters and why anyone would be interested in their story. The other one was too much about railroads, who gives a flip.

Betcha the resurrection stuff is no metaphor. Metaphors are for artsy fartsy movies, a big summer franchise film will be more literal and use it as the last minute plot twist that changes everything.

But until official, let's keep the thread here.

There were rumours about some super-natural stuff in the film originally, but the script has been rewritten since, so maybe it was cut.
As for the trailer: It looks cool and Verbinski showed with Rango what he can do with a western. I'm looking forward to it.

Eh, we'll see. I'm tired of this over-the-top action crap. And after seeing Depp's Dark Shadows, I am far less interested in his Lone Ranger.
