I'm not a big fan of the 3d-technology. I'm wearing glasses and having to put on those 3d-glasses over my own... it's uncomfortable and causes headache. So, I've been really looking forward to seeing the Hobbit (and Star Trek, of course, in May) but my enthusiasm has waned quite a bit now.
One reason for HFR is to lessen discomfort in viewing 3D. The higher frame rate is supposed to be easier on the eyes.

Until they hand out 3D glasses as clip-ons. It'll always be uncomfortable for me. Wearing two pairs of glasses at once hurts my face.

We'll be seeing the movie at 48fps for the midnight show, then later that day at 24fps. I'm hoping that will be close enough together to compare them reasonably.

I seem to be one of the lucky few who doesn't experience any problems while wearing 3D glasses over my regular ones.

Apparently the more you see HFR the more used to it you get. I like the idea that the old fashioned tech of cinema is going to be infused with some new life.

Make that three of us. I do prefer one specific type that was used a while back, although that may have been on an IMAX 3D screen. It was a shield over your glasses, in which the signal alternated between the left and right lenses to provide the effect. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

That's why I'm thinking I won't have much of a problem, if any at all. I am quite used to the motion smoothing effect on our LED set.

I put them on over my glasses and think man this is going to be annoying; 2 minutes later I have forgotten they are even on.

Jeremy Jahns' review hit YouTube today:

For those of you who don't follow his videos - he's a major LOTR fan, in fact, he often says those are his favorite movies ever.

He obviously liked The Hobbit quite a bit, but he didn't seem all that ecstatic this time. Notice that he didn't give it his trademark "awesometacular" verdict.

Couldn't finish it. The guy sounds like his on coke or something. I'm assuming he liked it but didn't love it, yeah?

He probably is.

The guy isn't much of a cinema buff (jizzed all over Avatar etc., and only reviews mainstream movies, mostly blockbusters), but I appreciate his eloquence.

He literally said he DID "love" it, just didn't sound very convincing.

Just watch his Avatar review.

But be warned. And take Xanax or something.

Pass. If he loved Avatar, I know everything I need to know...
