I'm reading Mission of Honor by Vince Flynn

Started in on The Hobbit and getting a serious case of the Tolkein-bug. I'm trying to avoid a full-on reread of LotR right now because of time, but I'm tempted to finally give The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales a shot.

A little unsure where I'll head next, reading wise though. I have a LeCarré book I'd like to tackle and Neil Cross's Luther tie-in. Hmmm... Anyway, got about half of The Hobbit to go.

I reviewed the first book (HEAT WAVE, I think?) for Curled Up With a Good Book, back before I knew what Castle was. I didn't get the gimmick behind it at all. Thankfully, my editor inserted a few sentences here and there and added an intro that saved my butt from too much embarrassment.

You were not alone. I can't remember the thread, but we were discussing this recently and some bookstore employees confirmed that there are readers out there who don't realize that "Richard Castle' is a fictional character on a TV series.

I begun reading Dracula but have taken a break from it. Will finish it over Christmas. The characters are interesting and I like the setting. This being 19th century literature however, it is incredibly drawn out and looooong. No sense of brevity back then. I haven't read Dune, only seen the miniseries on TV years ago.

I haven't read Dune in decades, but as I recall, it's far from compact itself. Although that's probably more true of the sequels than the original.

If you think Dracula is long-winded, stay away from Varney the Vampyre. It makes Dracula seem like a lean, mean, fast-paced thriller . . ...
