What if the Cumberbatch villain is the Klingon Kang? Just sayin'...

A new wrinkle... I've looked at a few screen shots in the trailer and it looks like Cumberbatch's baddie is shooting up and beating down what look to be Klingons in his big action bit. Interesting... I'm not saying it emboldens my theory cause it doesn't really, I'm just saying, Klingons do seem to be part of this movie. The "red jungle" planet might itself be the Klingon home world.

I'm thinking Cumberbatch is a Hur'q. We don't know anything about what the Hur'q look like, it would fit with "returning" and wanting revenge, and explains how you could sandwhich Klingons into the story. Remember, the earliest rumour said they'd be returning, even before the Khan rumour.

See, I've been wondering, not much has been established about the Hur'q canonically speaking. There is nothing saying the race is extinct, and therefore they could still be around in the 23rd century. And since Abrams and his cohorts are saying they'd like to provide various links to the other Trek series, this could be a perfect link to DS9. Have a scene where Kirk and Spock enter an alien night club and meet Cumberbatch. You know what would make this scene even better? Actually reveal the fucking identity of Cumberbatch's character. The potential is awe-inspiringly awesome.

No matter how they do it, Kang looking human (and a iconic canonical character) is not out of the realm of the rebooted mish-mash of old and new that is Abrams's Trek.

It makes a little sense, his apparent strength, agility, the fighting style, the anger, and the revenge... it's all very "Klingy". I could see Kang being a rogue, or part of a Kilingon terrorist cell or faction, angry at the Federation and it's freedoms and decadence (*coff* Al Qaeda *coff*). Perhaps he's even a sleeper agent made to look human. A devastated Starfleet and blown up Vulcan, thanks all to Nero, could leave an opening for a highly planned Klingon raid on the Federation and Kang leads the charge.
Perhaps Nero was even part of that plan, in deleted scenes Nero is captured by and in a Klingon prison, so maybe instead, the Klingons harbored the criminal Nero, protected him, then let him have his revenge on Vulcan and Starfleet to set it all into motion.

PS, I remember rumblings that Abrams wanted Liam Neeson to play Kang in the Trek sequel a few years back... PLUS, the apparent almost casting of Benicio Del Toro, that dude is very Klingon-esque...hmm?

Anyway, It's just playful speculation, nothing more... crazy thought?

The one problem is Kang had a deep, commanding, King Kamehameha-type voice. Cumberbatch sounds like a pissed-off English gent.

I too noticed this. It seems weird that no one else noticed this. I believe its the scene where he jumps up really high and lands next to a klingon dude and swipes him down.
