If you watched it A LOT, then you would not mount such an easily dismissed defense of Craig in that outfit, particularly when its easy to compare her to women on the same show wearing the same kind of material (Newmar, Kitt and Merriwether in the Batman movie), only they wore it with visual success.

On the other hand, you have yet to find a photo of Craig looking fat as Batgirl.

You have to explain that one, as she's one of the few TOS actresses who successfully wore the Starfleet uniform without appearing out of place (like the actress who suffered from the aging disease in "The Deadly Years", or Scotty's love interest in "The Lights of Zetar")

If you think Craig was overweight, you must think Nichelle Nichols was a big ol' moo-cow. Not to mention Marilyn.

Nichols had big thighs--there's no getting around that, but she was visually solid from the waist up.

If by "Marilyn" you mean Monroe, that would depend on which period of her career you're talking about. By the time she was hired for The Misfits and her last (incomplete) role in What A Way to Go, she had gained a lot of weight.

You do realize that bony, boyish women such as Twiggy and the aforementioned Mia Farrow were launched into fame in the 60s? Their look was pushed and celebrated at the time.

By the early-mid 70s, I certainly remember the "new woman" look of Mary Tyler Moore (her own show, not the way she appeared on the Dick Van Dyke show), Diane Keaton, bony Sissy Spacek, Meryl Streep and others being pushed long before this period of women you're criticizing?

In a strange case of odd timing, I came across an old 1972 movie last night called Fuzz. Ihnat was in it but I noted he lacked the healthy glow he had of Whom Gods Destroy. In fact he looked far closer to 50 than his listed 37.

As for Whom Gods Destroy, I've always enjoyed it. It's nowhere near the top of the heap relative to the series itself, but it is fun on a couple of levels. Ihnat's charisma is there to be seen a few times during his more tame moments, and Craig does an admirable job playing the Orion butt shaker. For the record....I liked Vina as an Orion slave girl a little better. She didn't speak but her eyes conveyed her so-called wild character with great effectiveness. BTW - Where are the staff on Garth's penal colony? An entire colony with just 15 or so inmates and a force field that encompasses the entire planet? That to me doesn't make sense. There has to be staff, more than just Dr Cory.

While on a penal colony, the "madman" invents the most powerful explosive ever. This is like a '60s comic book. All we need is Bat-Mite.

"Madman" also has found the time and talent to modify the neural neutralizer into a painomatic chair.

Plus you have crazed-eyed (nonfat, btw) Craig doing a parody of a madwoman, "He is my lover and I must kill him."

Extended, too-long dance sequence. And coronation ceremony.

I often defend S3 being as good as S2, but this is one of the ones that justifies S3's reputation for camp/lameness.

1) The late, great Steve Ihnat as Lord Garth - Over-the-top doesn't begin to describe his performance! Love the little changes in his voice, from high-pitched adolescent, to lo-voiced psycho. "Si-lience!"

The way his voice goes up at the end of his "I should kill you with my BARE HANDS!!!" is pretty hilarious. Seriously, it's quite an accomplishment to overact more than Williams Shatner.

It's interesting when fellow actors talk about Steve Ihnat. They all refer to him as immensely talented, he must have been equally generous working with them. Married a Playboy Playmate no less. Then we lose him to a heart attack at 37. A genuine loss, considering what he might have achieved.

The transition from Kirk to Garth's true form during the temper tantrum is interesting. It's one of Shatner's weakest performances, and he seems to be just going through the motions, rather embarrassingly. Then suddenly there's Inhat, pounding the floor full of fury.

That's almost worth going back to. I watched it last night, but I remember the floor pounding looking really contrived, acting like someone pantomiming pounding. Now I want to see Mr. Inhat really pounding.
