How about this? I hope MadMan doesn't mind me borrowing his Enterprise

I'd maybe darken it up a bit to make the storm look more ominous, but otherwise this is actually kind of awesome.

Why do I get the feeling that I'm going to be really disappointed by the real movie if the Enterprise doesn't end up submerged in the ocean?
I darkened it a bit

Oooooh. Pretty. I think that works better. There was too much contrast before with the weird rubble Borg cave.

Where did the rumor that there's a scene of Enterprise at sea originate? Who said that? Is there any truth to it or it is a joke?

The trailer was screened already for some people. A couple of those who saw it reported about the whole sea thing.
I guess we'll know tomorrow for sure.

Can't wait for the real thing.

impressive

though, now it seems a poster about LOST the movie
(and that made me remember that Damon Lindelof participated in the writing of the script too... oh dear God... let's hope that the trilogy doesn't end with everyone dying and then meeting in a catholic church in paradise/purgatory where Kirk's father is the priest that will help them walking "in the light" )

Not at all... but, since the Enterprise is coming up out of the water, I believe that Cumberbatch has a Photon Torpedo in his future.

Re: First Poster

As we're in fan poster mode: 2012 take on the classic WOK poster (unless he's Mitchell )

That might be one way to kill Mitchell.

Ya' know what I, as the truest of the true blue of Trekkies, hate?! Everything after 'The Man Trap'! That's right, I'm talkin' about the episode friction' airdates. No production order here! No sir!
The Man trap? I wouldn't sully my mouth with that trash! Everything after The Cage is terrible! Thank god that episode didn't air, or it would probably endure the same fate as all the other god-awful episodes!!

Actually scratch that, anything before The Cage is an abomination! Truly terrible episodes... oh wait there weren't any... Good thing too! This Star Trek m'larky is an insult to Gene Roddenberry's vision... For "The Lieutenant"!!
Very true. Any true blue dyed in the wool Trek fan wouldn't bother watching 'Star Trek' at all. To REALLY appreciate the essence of Trek, one should only watch 'My Mother the Car'.

Speaking (as many in this thread have) of one film's poster ripping off the style of another... Am I the only one who recognizes this ESB poster as a pretty blatant rip-off of this "Gone With The Wind" poster?

In fact, in Star Wars fan circles this is referred to as the "Gone With the Wind" poster. Fans recognized the obvious (and almost certainly intentional) similarities ages ago and started circulating the nickname for the Empire poster when I was younger.
Kinda my point. Hollywood has always paid homage to what has come before. One can appreciate these homages as a tribute to the works of the past, or instead chose to criticize them as terrible lapses in originality, but doing so is wholly subjective, and it reveals far more about the observer than the observed.

Re: First Poster

Yep. In fact, remember that after the Generations poster of Kirk and Picard was first released in the summer or fall of 1994 how a lot of of other film posters started employing a similar "look" of half-shaded, large faces peering out from the background while in the foreground a lot of things and details were often happening.

I don't know for sure if Generations' famous twin-face poster started that trend but it sure seemed as if beginning in 1995 and continuing through the remainder of the nineties that an awful lot of movie posters both teaser and full release started using the "half-shaded faces of the actors looking out at you" theme. It's possible the whole idea started before the Trek film was ever made and released. The Hunt for Red October had a poster with Sean Connery's face looking out at you in a similar fashion but it didn't seem to be the norm or a recurring thing until after Generations.

And, of course, there was Star Trek V's poster with Kirk and Spock and Sybok's followers galloping towards the viewer at the bottom.

Was there some discussion that the Enterprise would end up being underwater? If so, I hope they do a scene like this.

Wait -- Blue Nacelles??? That just ain't right.
Someone should start a thread in which we can all rebuke the very idea of blue nacelles.

Putting The Dark Knight Rises and the Star Trek Into Darkness posters side by side looks neat. London looks as drab-grey like San Francisco in Star Trek (2009), I hope it's just the lighting. Otherwise Terran architecture in the 23rd century is not exactly awe-inspiring beautiful.

I am looking forward to the movie, I already liked its predecessor. The villain can't be Mitchell, though - otherwise he wouldn't have been in the very first Star Trek Ongoing comic.
