First Poster

You know, I already hate JJ Abrams and everyone involved in the horrible Star Trek reboot. They didn't need to go the extra mile and make their poster look like one for the other movie series I hate, Nolan's Batman. My two most hated movies of all time are Star Trek (2009) and The Dark Knight, and as a trekkie, just seeing that poster almost causes physical pain. I'd say that I hope this is a huge failure, but we're living in a world where Michael Bay's horrible Transformers movies (the first two written by the same writers of the horrible ST reboot movies) make a bunch of money, this will make money. Th same people that love those movies will love the Star Trek movie that has about as much to do with Star Trek as it does with How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

(I'll end this post by saying that I don't mean to insult any individual who loves the ST reboot, so if you like it, don't take what I say personally, I'm mostly talking about the general audience for the movie, not individuals).

That image right there. Put that on a poster with nothing but a release date, and I'm advance ordering my tickets to see that movie. That's what I was saying earlier (here, another board?): The current poster, I walk by it in the lobby or on the sidewalk, there's nothing to make me think I want to stop and see it. In that pic: It could be Enterprise rising up to launch. Maybe she was damaged, landed, repaired and relaunching to get back into the fight. Or maybe this is it, she's dead and she's sinking to her grave. I look at that, and a half dozen stories come to mind.

I look at the official one: Oh, someone nuked a city and the cliched bad ass of the movie is looking out over the ruins oh well ~walk on by~

Bones is on the show, then it's Dr. Piper, then Bones again?! Uhura is wearing red, then gold, THEN RED AGAIN?! Sulu's a mathematician? And don't get me started on that Gary Mitchell. What the frig is up with those Charlie Brown Velour shirts?!

No. Give me the first episode. That's all I need. It's all any true blue Trekkie needs! Change is evil.

ETA: That said, I'm going to see the new film. I'm looking forward to hating it.

I get that.

Look at as someone that knows dick all about the synopsis at this point: You walk out of a movie, down the hall and BAM the Enterprise is sinking/rising out of the water. You're going to want to see the movie to see what the fuck is happening.

Madman hit it on the head: The way he framed the shot, she looks like it could be Abrams's Enterprise, TOS, or the Movie Refit, it doesn't matter, it's THE ENTERPRISE sinking/rising out of the goddamn ocean! 2 tickets please.

I'm not a big fan of the 2009 movie--I've mellowed toward and enjoy it these days--and even I would say "This, I want to see this!" just on Madman's image if it was a poster.
