... The baby will be the third in line to the throne, bumping Prince Harry, the baby's uncle, to fourth place.

I hope that Prince William & Princess Kate have a boy!!

This is great news for them, assuming they wanted children. I can't imagine what the pressure must be like.

Princess is a title usually conveyed by birth, rather than marriage. As Prince William's wife she's most formally refered to as Princess William, failing that she's the Duchess of Cambridge or Countess of Strathearn in Scotland.

Well especially for Kate who would have had to have undergone various examinations to make sure she could actually provide children before the wedding - it's nice that she's pretty and can smile and stuff but her main function is broodmare.

Still at least it's not like the old days where the Home Secretary
would be present at the birth, I think Prince Anna's birth was the last one a HS attended

I think they did away with the pre-marriage medical checks after Diana. It's not as though he's going to say no I'm not going to marry her, is it?

They do now. They didn't in his dad's day. That's why the second in line to the throne married a commoner. They're allowed to marry whoever they want now. His father had to marry who he was told to marry and look how well that turned out. Ergo it stands to reason it was pointless to do any medical checks beforehand, not least because Diana's boys would have told the establishment to fuck off.

No it is quite true. Her formal title is Princess William, Duke of....

Princess Diana was both never an actual princess, despite what people called her and was from marriage the Princess of Wales, which brings a bit more clout than Duchess of Cambridge.

I believe the Queen has an aunt who is called Princess Michael--she married Prince Michael of somesuch and he never got a higher title.

When Mr. King gets married, his wife is Mrs. King
When the King gets married, his wife is the Queen
When Prince William gets married, his wife is Princess William

When Ms. Queen gets married, her husband keeps his name
When the Queen gets married, her husband gets no title
Etc.

It's usage innit? If they call her Princess Catherine then that's what she'll be called. Protocol went out the window with Diana. The Royal Household was forced to change a lot of things because of her. Also when Princess Elizabeth married Philip, he was forced to take the Windsor name, instead of Battenburg (or Mountbatten as they styled themselves). He declared he might as well have been a eunuch at the time. His uncle Louis was furious, since he had done all the wheeling and dealing to secure the marriage.
