^That's a good point. I did think it was a bit of a stretch.

But speculation is fun and it's all we have to go on now!

The Mission: Impossible movies have never stuck with a director, either. Cruise has said from the beginning he likes it as a "director's franchise."

Oh...and that 1952 thing is now rumoured to be about Tesla...

^No, the guy who looks like David Bowie. (Although, in that movie, David Bowie didn't actually look like David Bowie...)

Looks like it might be Matthew Vaughn, after all.

Jason Flemyng kinda' let it slip while talking about whether he would return to the X-Men franchise and what his relationship was like with Singer now that Vaughn is gone.

I'm cool with this.

Re: Who should be the Director for Star Wars Episode 7?

i haven't had a chance to see pages 3-12.

But i picked Other, meaning Bryan Singer. Yes, he failed with Superman Returns. But his amazing work with X-Men is what built up my expectations really high for Superman Returns.

And with all his work on trying to to do Battlestar Galactica...i think he would do well with Star Wars, and really "get it" .

He just needs to have some good writers & actors, and it will all work together into one of the best films ever.

If Singer has the time to squeeze it in...

Kevin Smith. Give me a break. That might be the most awful suggestion I've ever heard for anything, ever.
Kevin Smith can write/direct serious material very well, and has a deep love of this particular subject matter. I think he'd do great, and I think if you think this suggestion is that awful, you haven't been exposed to the full range of Smith's movies - probably just Clerks, Mallrats, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, and Clerks II?
I'm as familiar with his material as his fat ass is with two plane seats every time he travels. Probably the most overrated hack of our time. Awful suggestion, you should be ashamed of yourself.

i know Smith would respect the material, and give it a great effort (the opposite of Star Trek Nemesis)...maybe he could direct an episode of Clone Wars as a trial?

It doesn't matter nearly as much who the director is because the director doesn't have to be the studio's point man for all artistic decisions. In the end what matters the most is the script. I nominate Kim Stanley Robinson for script, with Lucas producing and a director who can manage to keep the acting on track despite dealing with huge FX, Robert Zemeckis or Ron Howard or Brad Bird or Steven Spielberg.

Also, the really really important question is, who does the score? John Williams is a great composer but the series is getting older. Age has made him less reliably great, I fear, as well. I'm thinking Brian Tyler, or Danny Elfman if he's explicitly instructed to avoid Burtonism. But maybe Dave Arnold?

Bear McCreary. No doubt the new movie will have way more aliens than the original. His score for BSG seemed way more alien than the series "deserved" (the series & the peoples felt very American). He'll add to the saga & help take it to the next level.

The two composers that come to mind IF John Williams needs a successor are John Ottman who did a great job on SUPERMAN RETURNS blending William's themes with his own, and David Arnold. Both INDEPENDENCE DAY and especially STARGATE are very Williams-esque.

I don't want a John Williams clone. If we can't have Williams himself, they should hire someone completely different, like Terence Blanchard or Jonny Greenwood.
