BOTF runs just fine on my machine. There are a few patches around that fix issues it has with newer OSes/hardware.

I haven't had any luck in running New Worlds however. It's always been temperamental at best.
New worlds as far as I understand it requires to be installed on a Fat32 partition (the game apparently doesn't play well with NTFS).

Hi there. I've been having some problems getting the installer for Armada 2 to even run. I can't even get the install screen to open; the dang thing just hangs in the task manager. Is there a fix for this?

Re: Windows 7 ST Game Install & Run Issues with Solutions

Armada 2 launcher works fine for me.
I'm using Win 7 x64 SP1 Ultimate.

The only problem is that I cannot install the game (after pressing 'Install' button, it doesn't do anything).

I'm trying to find an alternative solution.
Armada 1 on the other hand installs fine and I can run it. I'm only experiencing a problem at the moment with it being sluggish in game-play... this is likely due to my older Nvidia drivers.
Updating them to the latest version seems to correct the problem for a lot of people (I have yet to try it).

Also, run the game in compatibility mode for XP SP2, and use MSconfig to limit the amount of RAM to 2GB if you get the 'not enough memory' error.

Re: Windows 7 ST Game Install & Run Issues with Solutions

When STO crashed the other day it did something to my launcher. Everytime I started it would say files were corrupted and asked it I wanted to verify. After it passed that, it would still crash and go to the Cryptic Report Error screen. After going through that about 10 times it started working again. Don't know the exact problem, but seems to have resolved by itself.

Re: Windows 7 ST Game Install & Run Issues with Solutions

Majority of people would allow Windows updates to be applied.
I did and still do.
To that end, 'missing updates' are not the issue.
It's the software itself.
The games are very old and Microsoft stopped supporting DOS based programs some time ago.

To that end, 16-bit installers, etc. don't exactly play 'nice'.

Some games under x64 OS will essentially 'do nothing' for a while until after about some time they end up running.
I don't know what causes this delay in installation, but it doesn't appear always.
ST: Voyager 'Elite force' seems to exhibit this issue under Windows 7 x64... as does Armada.

Bridge Commander is yet another example.
I tried running the installer in XP SP2 compatibility mode (under admin privileges) and nothing - I've waited over an hour in some cases... nothing appears in terms of installation.
Looks like BC is 'gone' for good.

If someone can point me to a direction on how to install the thing on my Win 7 Ultimate x64, I'd appreciate it.

Re: Windows 7 ST Game Install & Run Issues with Solutions

For those of you experiencing problems installing Bridge Commander on Windows 7 SP1 x64.
I found a solution.
Its not perfect, but a solution nevertheless.

As you know, I was unable to install the game. I ran the installer, tried to run it as admin, in various compatibility modes, even left the laptop on after running the installer over night, and nothing (I could see the process in Task Manager, but ultimately, there was no installation going on).

Anyway, I downloaded the 'core' of BC off the net, which is roughly 350mb.
It's essentially the install directory of the game.
Has all of the animations, dialogue, scripts... its a full game, and works on my system nicely.
Now I just want to play around with mods.

Well for Starfleet Command I got it to run using the following method I was turned on to in another thread..

1. Insert CD and run setup exe as administrator.

2. Once files are loaded, go into the install directory. across the top where the name, size, type is located click on the file type.

3. then click on applications, to bring up only the exe files..

4. Right click on each exe file. click on properties, click on compatibility tab.

5. put a check in compatibility mode for (WTF!) windows 2000...go figure.

6. Now the boring stuff... put a check in both visual themes and desktop composition and run in admin.

7. if you want to be real sure click on the show setting for all users tab and redo the whole process once more.
Thanks! This worked great to run Starfleet Command on my laptop running Win7
