I sometimes think of it as under-acting. He just kinda stands there reciting his lines with perfect diction like he's in a lecture hall.

I must be inexperienced too then. I didn't know the was meant to express sarcasm. Around here, it's usually used to express annoyance.

If you are on a laptop/PC, rolling over a smiley with your mouse will show the "name/emotion". That may help in the future. It took me a while to figure it out, too.
